Market Eyes On Inflation Data - Jan 29, 2009

The key benchmark indices are trading in green amid of positive sentiments across the Asian market on the back of approval of USD 819 bn economic stimulus bill by the US House of Representatives. However, the behavior of the market turned choppy due to cautious approach by the retail and institutional investors ahead of expiration of January F&O series and inflation data announcement. Buying interest seen across the Bankex, Realty and Auto, while selling pressure emerged in the Power, CG and Oil & Gas counters. The BSE Bankex index surged 1.55%, while Realty index is trading higher by 1.14%. Overall the market breadth is positive as 954 stocks are trading in green while 794 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 35.77 points at 9,293.24 while NSE Nifty down by 2 points at 2,847.5. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 13.29 points and 13.67 points at 2928.1 and 3,318.66 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Maruti Suzuki up by (3.90%) to Rs. 540.8, along with Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd by (3.43%) to Rs. 293.6, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd by (2.98%) at Rs.1549.5, ICICI bank by (2.53%) at Rs.418.7, SBI by (2.01%) to Rs.1132.75 and Tata Motors by (1.91%) at Rs.149.55.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd up by (4.04%) at Rs.294.75 along with Maruti Suzuki by (3.93%) at Rs.541, Reliance Power by (3.27%) at Rs.105.95, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd by (2.91%) at Rs.1548.4 and ICICI Bank by (2.44%) at Rs.418.

BSE Bankex is trading higher by (1.55%) or 74.43 points at 4,864.36. The top gainers in the index are Axis bank surged by (2.84%) to Rs.435.10 along with Oriental Bank by (2.52%) to Rs.132.40, Yes Bank by (2.41%) to Rs. 61.50, SBI by (2.35%) to Rs.1136.50, followed by ICICI Bank by (1.78%) at Rs.415.60.

BSE Realty is trading higher by (1.14%) or 18.78 points at 1,663.26. The top gainers in the index are Indiabul Real up by (5.72%) to Rs.112.70 along with Akruti City by (4.22%) to Rs. 928, Orbit co by (3.07%) to Rs.45.35, Anant Raj Industries by (2.62%) to Rs.58.65, followed by Unitech Ltd by (2.43%) to Rs.31.60.

Positive Sentiments Pulling Market North - Jan 27, 2009

The benchmark indices comes off from the day''s high as the Reserve Bank Of India keeps the benchmark interest rate unchanged in its third quarter review of the Monetary Policy for 2008-09. The central bank left its repo rate, reverse repo rate and the cash reserve ratio (CRR) unchanged at 5.5%, 4% and 5% respectively. However at the initial stage the value buying is seen by the various fund houses as well as retail investors after encouraging third quarter earnings reported by country''s top financial institutions such as SBI and ICICI Bank. IT, TECk, Metal and Power counters lead the gainers. Among the sectoral indices BSE IT index is up by 3.78%, while the BSE TECk is trading higher by 3.08%. Overall the market breadth is positive as 954 stocks are trading in green while 940 stocks are in red.

At 11.32 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 161.94 points at 8,836.29 while NSE Nifty increased by 51.44 points at 2,730. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 10.96 points and 0.75 points at 2,861.15 and 3,256.29 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Sterlite Industries up by (7.87%) to Rs.258.3, along with Reliance Infrastructure by (4.23%) to Rs.506.05, Infosys Technologies by (4.19%) at Rs.1254.4, Maruti suzuki by (4.19%) at Rs.536.95, Jai Prakash Associate by (3.98%) to Rs.64 and Tata Steel by (3.94%) at Rs.172.9.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are HCL Technologies up by (8.60%) at Rs.116.2 along with Sterlite Industries by (8.36%) at Rs.259.25, Zee Entertainment by (6.44%) at Rs.97.45, Tata Communication by (6.05%) at Rs.452.5 and Ambuja Cements by (5.30%) at Rs.69.6.

BSE IT is trading higher by (3.78%) or 78.28 points at 2,147.42. The top gainers in the index are HCL Technology up by (7.76%) to Rs.115.30 along with Rolta India by (7.27%) to Rs.78.95, Infosys Technologies by (3.74%) to Rs.1249, Tech Mahindra by (3.62%) to Rs.217.75, followed by TCS Ltd by (3.56%) at Rs.503.

BSE TECk is trading higher by (3.08%) or 52.69 points at 1,761.17. The major gainers are HCL Technology trading higher by (7.76%) at Rs.115.30, along with Rolta India by (7.27%) at Rs.78.95, Zee Entertainment by (5.55%) at Rs.97, Tata Communication by (5.17%) at Rs 448.75, Infosys Technology by (4.19%) at Rs 1254.4 and Tech Mahindra by (3.45%) at Rs 217.40.

The Benchmark Indices Are Trading Flat - Jan 23, 2009

The benchmark indices are trading flat with negative bias and mounting pressure on investor sentiments. After some sign of recover in the early hours of the day, the markets are trading in red with grim earnings report from big wigs. The Asian markets are also trading low, weighed by poor corporate results and deteriorating global economy. The sectoral indices are trading in red with Capital Goods, Metal, IT and Realty on the top. The market breath is favoring decline, as 1,197 stocks are trading in red and about 605 stocks in green on the broader BSE.

At 11.35 AM, the BSE Sensex is losing by 35.02 points at 8,779.82 and NSE Nifty by 19.05 points at 2,694.75. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 28.89 points and 35.11 points at 2,866.49 and 3,269.84 respectively.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Mahindra & Mahindra down by (5.03%) at Rs.273.1 along with NALCO by (4.68%) at Rs.189.35, Unitech by (4.59%) at Rs.27.05, Wipro by (3.65%) at Rs.210.05 and Zee Entertainment by (3.12%) at Rs.94.75.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Jaiprakash Asso that plunged by (6.27%) to Rs.62.00 along with Mahindra & Mahindra by (5.22%) at Rs.272.50, Wipro Ltd by (3.52%) at Rs.209.95, Tata Power by (2.95%) at Rs.693.25 and Infosys Tech by (2.55%) at Rs.1,198.25.

BSE Capital Goods index is trading lower by (1.91%) or 117.92 points at 6,054.87. The major losers are AIA Engg trading down by (5.17%) at Rs.110.00, Alstom Project by (4.28%) at Rs.225.00, Elecon Eng by (3.17%) at Rs.35.10, Thermax Ltd by (3.70%) to Rs.156.00, followed by kalpat Pow by (2.96%) to Rs.254.00.

BSE Metal is trading lower by (2.84%) or 129.90 points at 4,450.36. The top losers in the index are Jindal Steel decreased by (8.81%) to Rs.735.20, Jindal Saw by (4.86%) to Rs.194.00, Welspun Gujarat down by (4.08%) to Rs.77.50 followed by Jai Corp by (3.66%) at Rs.60.60.

After A Positive Start, The Benchmark Indices Turned Into Choppy - Jan 19, 2009

After a positive start, the benchmark indices turned into choppy amid of mixed cues from Asian market. The investors are looking cautious ahead of Barrack Obama’s swearing in as US president. Global market is expected to find a clear way from the inaugural speech by the new president. Among the sectoral indices, Realty, IT and TECk dipped by nearly 2.38%, 1.60% and 0.83% respectively. The market breadth is negative as 1062 stocks are trading in red while 764 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 32.51 points at 9,291.08 whereas NSE Nifty is down by 1.59 points at 2,826.85. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 15.43 points and 29.98 points at 3,042.27 and 3,442.75 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Mahindra & Mahindra down by (3.38%) to Rs 313.3, along with TCS Ltd by (2.74%) to Rs.489.15, Housing Development Fin by (2.46%) at Rs.1526.95, Tata Motors by (2.28%) at Rs.149.9, ICICI Bank by (2.05%) at Rs.415.25 and Wipro Ltd by (2.02%) at Rs.233.05.

The top losers in the index are Unitech down by (8.47%) to Rs.27.55 along with Indiabulls real estate by (2.21%) to Rs.110.40 crore, Omaxe Ltd by (2%) to Rs.51.35, DLF Ltd by (1.69%) to Rs.191.90, followed by Sobha Dev by (0.12%) at Rs.84.60.

BSE IT is trading lower by (1.60%) or 34.88 points at 2,150.10. The top losers in the index are TCS Ltd down by (2.40%) to Rs.490.90 along with Wipro Ltd decreased by (1.80%) to Rs.233.35, Infosys Tech by (1.87%) to Rs.1244.50, followed by Oracle Fin by (1.46%) at Rs.448.

The Benchmark Indices Continue Trading On Positive - Jan 16, 2009

Following global sentiments, the benchmark indices continue trading on positive note. Wall Street pulled off a big turnaround on Thursday due to announcement of agreement between Bank of America and the Treasury Department, which will provide USD15 billion to USD 20 billion in new government support to the bank. Addition to this, the proactive step of government adding 3 more directors to save the ‘Satyam ship’ have brought relief for many investors. Reacting to the same the stock rebounded and trading with a smart gain of nearly 18%. Buying has emerged in Oil&Gas, Power and PSU’s stocks as the indices are trading up by 3.39%, 2.53% and 1.99% respectively. The market breadth is positive as 1108 stocks are trading in green while 729 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 190.22 points at 9,236.97 whereas NSE Nifty higher by 60.65 points at 2,797.35. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 30.89 points and 28.61 points at 3,041.71 and 3,439.09 respectively.

BSE Oil & Gas is trading higher by (3.39%) or 191.58 points at 5,837.61. The major gainers are Reliance Industries higher by (4.11%) at Rs.1,190.35, along with RNRL by (3.76%) at Rs.53.75, Essar Oil by (3.06%) at Rs.77.50, Gail India by (2.78%) at Rs.205.45, followed by Aban offshore by (2.68%) to Rs.603.45.

BSE Power is trading higher by (2.53%) or 42.81 points at 1,737.50. Domestic Benchmark Indices Are Trading In Deep Red - Jan 15, 2009

Extending further losses, the domestic benchmark indices are trading in deep red tracking the falling global markets and deepening worries of banking crises in the United States. A recent news of US’s banking giant Deutsche Bank reported a USD 6.4 billion loss for the fourth quarter dragged the Indian banking sector down during the last hour trade. Besides, the continuous downfalls into the Asian markets are reflecting negative sentiment to the Indian market as investors are playing with the safest side. Heavy selling pressure is seen across the board with Bankex, Realty and IT leading the decline. The BSE Bankex index has plunged 6.13 % and the BSE Realty index has shed by 5.20%.

The market breadth is negative as 366 stocks are trading in red while 1420 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex is down by 406.8 points at 8,963.68 whereas NSE Nifty by 115 points at 2,720.3. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 66.36 points and 78.34 points at 2997.11 and 3,407.34 respectively.

Benchmark Indices Are Trading Positive - Jan 14, 2009

Continuing its positive beginning, the benchmark indices are trading with a strong positive bias on account of fresh buying from foreign funds and taking cues from positive sentiments across the Asian markets. The sentiments were largely buoyed by a better than expected beginning of earnings session after India’s second largest IT giant Infosys Technologies came out with impressive 3Q result. On sectoral front, IT, Metal and TECk stocks are trading up by 4.27%, 3.90% and 3.57% respectively with heavy buying pressure. The market breadth is positive as 1131 stocks are trading in green while 607 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex surged by 273.44 points at 9,344.8 whereas NSE Nifty higher by 75.5 points at 2,820.45. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 50.24 points and 43.65 points at 3,056.66 and 3,486.01 respectively.

Benchmark Indices Are Trading In A Green Territory - Jan 13, 2009

The benchmark indices are trading in a green territory on account of positive sentiments across the board brought by the announcement of quarterly results of Infosys Technologies. In the midst of global recession, the company has posted better then expected Q3 earnings which pushed Indices up, despite Wipro along with few IT companies had barred from World Bank. However, the market turned volatile on account of weak Asian markets due to Wall Street fell for the fourth session on Monday because of worries related to financial sector grew. On a sectoral front IT, Realty and TECk indices trading up by 3.99%, 2.73% and 1.76% respectively. The market breadth is positive as 1019 stocks are trading in green while 763 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 41.92 points at 9,151.97 whereas NSE Nifty higher by 4.75 points at 2,777.85. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 20.24 points and 24.65 points at 3,070.26 and 3,519.9 respectively.

Eyes On IIP Figures - Jan 12, 2009

The benchmark indices are trading in a red territory on the back of cautious approach by investors. After ‘Satyam mayhem’ investors are hoping something exceptional from corporate quarterly results as earnings of some major companies may dip due to the ongoing recession. In addition to this, the focus is on November’s IIP data, which has made market under pressure, as heavy selling seen across Power, Oil & Gas. IT, Metal, CG and Realty sectors. On a global front, most of the Asian market trading on a negative bias, after an announcement of further deterioration in the labor market during December’08 by the US govt. The market breadth is negative as 1110 stocks are trading in red while 631 stocks are in red.

At 11.33 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 207.62 points at 9,198.84 and NSE Nifty declined by 73.69 points at 2,799.3. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 30.86 points and 18.82 points at 3,089.92 and 3,536.77 respectively.

BSE Oil & Gas is trading lower by (2.94%) or 169.96 points at 5,607.63. The top losers in the index are Reliance down by (4.95%) to Rs.1094.05 along with BPCL by (2.55%) to Rs.371.10, Indian Oil Cor by (2.52%) to Rs.424.05, Rel Petroleum by (2.50%) to Rs.78.10 followed by ONGC by (2.01%) at Rs.657.

Sensex Vaults Nearly 500 Pts @ 10:16 Hrs

Trading got off to an upbeat start on the major Indian bourses this morning as the bulls, with strong global markets backing them up, took first strike and lifted stock prices up sharply in early trade. Stocks cutting across sectors have moved up in frenzied buying and mirroring the buoyant mood, the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty have posted handsome gains now.

While the Sensex, which opened with a positive gap of 323 points at 15,612.61, has rallied to 15,786.95, netting a gain of 497.55 points or 3.25%, the Nifty has flared up by 3.21% or 147.50 points to 4757.35 now.

Reflecting the sharp surge in prices of information technology, realty and bank stocks, the respective sectoral indices BSE IT, Realty and Bankex have moved up by 3.25% - 3.5% now. The Capital Goods, Tech, Metal, Power and Oil & Gas indices have surged 2% - 2.5% while the Auto, Healthcare, FMCG, CD and PSU barometers have advanced by 1.25% - 1.5%.

Though buying remains a bit selective in smallcap space - the Smallcap index is up with a modest gain of 0.84% - several midcap stocks have risen sharply in opening trade. The BSE Midcap index has moved up by as much as 1.7% at present.

Jaiprakash Associates (up 5.8% at Rs 211.85) is the biggest gainer in the Sensex. ICICI Bank and Infosys Technologies have gained 4.55% and 4.35% respectively.

Bharti Airtel, DLF, Reliance Energy, BHEL, HDFC Bank, Hindalco, HDFC, ONGC, Reliance Communications, Reliance Industries, Satyam Computer Services, State Bank of India, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro have gained 2% - 4%.

Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Larsen & Toubro, ITC, Hindustan Unilever, ACC, Ambuja Cements, Cipla and Grasim Industries have also risen sharply. Mahindra & Mahindra, NTPC and Ranbaxy Laboratories have gained marginal ground.

Cairn India has gained 5.3%. SAIL, Sterlite Industries, HCL Technologies, Tata Communications, Tata Power, Siemens, Unitech, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Punjab National Bank, Zee Entertainment, BPCL, Idea Cellular, ABB and GAIL India are up by 2% - 4.5% now. Hero Honda, Reliance Petroleum, Suzlon Energy, Nalco and Power Grid have also posted sharp gains.
