The Benchmark Indices Are Trading Flat - Jan 23, 2009

The benchmark indices are trading flat with negative bias and mounting pressure on investor sentiments. After some sign of recover in the early hours of the day, the markets are trading in red with grim earnings report from big wigs. The Asian markets are also trading low, weighed by poor corporate results and deteriorating global economy. The sectoral indices are trading in red with Capital Goods, Metal, IT and Realty on the top. The market breath is favoring decline, as 1,197 stocks are trading in red and about 605 stocks in green on the broader BSE.

At 11.35 AM, the BSE Sensex is losing by 35.02 points at 8,779.82 and NSE Nifty by 19.05 points at 2,694.75. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 28.89 points and 35.11 points at 2,866.49 and 3,269.84 respectively.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Mahindra & Mahindra down by (5.03%) at Rs.273.1 along with NALCO by (4.68%) at Rs.189.35, Unitech by (4.59%) at Rs.27.05, Wipro by (3.65%) at Rs.210.05 and Zee Entertainment by (3.12%) at Rs.94.75.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Jaiprakash Asso that plunged by (6.27%) to Rs.62.00 along with Mahindra & Mahindra by (5.22%) at Rs.272.50, Wipro Ltd by (3.52%) at Rs.209.95, Tata Power by (2.95%) at Rs.693.25 and Infosys Tech by (2.55%) at Rs.1,198.25.

BSE Capital Goods index is trading lower by (1.91%) or 117.92 points at 6,054.87. The major losers are AIA Engg trading down by (5.17%) at Rs.110.00, Alstom Project by (4.28%) at Rs.225.00, Elecon Eng by (3.17%) at Rs.35.10, Thermax Ltd by (3.70%) to Rs.156.00, followed by kalpat Pow by (2.96%) to Rs.254.00.

BSE Metal is trading lower by (2.84%) or 129.90 points at 4,450.36. The top losers in the index are Jindal Steel decreased by (8.81%) to Rs.735.20, Jindal Saw by (4.86%) to Rs.194.00, Welspun Gujarat down by (4.08%) to Rs.77.50 followed by Jai Corp by (3.66%) at Rs.60.60.
