Eyes On IIP Figures - Jan 12, 2009

The benchmark indices are trading in a red territory on the back of cautious approach by investors. After ‘Satyam mayhem’ investors are hoping something exceptional from corporate quarterly results as earnings of some major companies may dip due to the ongoing recession. In addition to this, the focus is on November’s IIP data, which has made market under pressure, as heavy selling seen across Power, Oil & Gas. IT, Metal, CG and Realty sectors. On a global front, most of the Asian market trading on a negative bias, after an announcement of further deterioration in the labor market during December’08 by the US govt. The market breadth is negative as 1110 stocks are trading in red while 631 stocks are in red.

At 11.33 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 207.62 points at 9,198.84 and NSE Nifty declined by 73.69 points at 2,799.3. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 30.86 points and 18.82 points at 3,089.92 and 3,536.77 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Wipro Ltd down by (9.83%) to Rs.226, along with Reliance Infrastructure by (8.10%) to Rs.474.5, DLF Ltd by (5.38%) at Rs.205.9, Hindalco Ind by (4.94%) at Rs.50, Reliance Industries by (4.95%) at Rs.1094.05 and Sterlite Industries by (4.25%) at Rs.261.5.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Wipro Ltd by (9.86%) at Rs.226.2 along with Siemens by (6.83%) at Rs.243.35, Reliance Infrastructure by (5.99%) at Rs.477.7, Ambuja Cements by (5.37%) at Rs.68.75 and Sterlite Industries by (4.85%) at Rs.258.7.

BSE Power is trading lower by (3.21%) or 57.23 points at 1,723.64. The major losers are Rel Infra trading lower by (8.10%) at Rs.474.50, along with Siemens Ltd by (4.85%) at Rs.248.05, Power Grid by (3.87%) at Rs.74.55, NTPC Ltd by (3.85%) at Rs.171.25, followed by Torrent Power by (3.79%) to Rs.72.25.

BSE Oil & Gas is trading lower by (2.94%) or 169.96 points at 5,607.63. The top losers in the index are Reliance down by (4.95%) to Rs.1094.05 along with BPCL by (2.55%) to Rs.371.10, Indian Oil Cor by (2.52%) to Rs.424.05, Rel Petroleum by (2.50%) to Rs.78.10 followed by ONGC by (2.01%) at Rs.657.

Market is trading on back - Aug 12 , 2008

Market is trading on back foot as Metal, Bank, Capital Goods, Reality and IT stocks are trading weak. After a positive opening, market slipped soon and further lost more ground on IIP numbers. June IIP numbers were down at 5.4% as against 8.9% (YoY), and India''s infrastructure sector output grew by 3.4% in June 2008 from a year earlier, slightly below 3.5% annual growth in May 2008. NSE Nifty is trading around 4,500 level and BSE Sensex is below 15,200 mark. Among the Sensex pack, 3 stocks are trading in green while 27 are in red.

At 1.31PM, the BSE Sensex is trading lower by 362.78 points at 15,141.13 and NSE Nifty is down by 94.84 points at 4,529.55.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading lower by 61.61 points at 5,921.06 along with Small Cap down by 74.58 points at 7,196.77.

Losers from the BSE are Maruti Suzuki trading lower by (6.85%) at Rs666.50 in line with Tata Steel by (6.02%) at Rs606.00, ICICI Bank Ltd by (4.70%) at Rs734.55, Infosys Tech by (4.61%) at Rs1,593.05, JP Associates by (4.30%) at Rs189.10, Tata Power by (3.98%) at Rs1,034.00 and Sterlite Indus by (3.88%) at Rs600.65.

The BSE Metal index is trading down by 435.32 points at 12,700.92 as Tata Steel trading lower by (5.78%) at Rs607.50 along with Jindal Steel by (4.52%) at Rs2,006.00, Sterlite Inds (3.82%) at Rs601.00, Hindustan Zinc by (2.87%) at Rs561.00 and JSW SL by (2.71%) at Rs781.55.

The BSE Bank index is trading lower by 248.89 points at 7,453.46 as ICICI Bank Ltd trading down by (4.77%) at Rs734.00 along with Axis Bank by (4.72%) at Rs723.90, Bank of Baroda (4.02%) at Rs284.30, Punjab National Bank (3.92%) at Rs496.50 and SBI by (3.55%) at Rs1,536.00.

The BSE Capital Goods index is trading down by 128.13 points at 12,718.32. Scrips trading down are Jyoti Struct by (5.25%) at Rs137.10 along with Walchand In by (3.01%) at Rs266.00, Elecon Eng C (2.85%) at Rs122.90, Everest Kanto (2.66%) at Rs313.00 and Havells India by (2.53%) at Rs368.00.

From the telecommunication sector, Idea Cellular is lower by (2.86%) at Rs86.65 along with Bharti Airtel trading down by (2.21%) at Rs826.85, Tata Communications by (1.11%) at Rs446.00 and Reliance Com Ltd by (0.96%) at Rs450.40.

In auto sector Maruti Suzuki is trading lower by (7.13%) at Rs668 followed by Tata Motors down by (3.05%) at Rs434.30, M&M Ltd by (1.36%) at Rs582.00 and Hero Honda Motors lower by (0.75%) at Rs822.00.

In cement sector ACC Ltd is trading down by (0.58%) at Rs626.00, Ambuja Cement is lower by (0.45%) at Rs87.90 and Grasim Indus is down by (0.29%) at Rs2,065.05.
