The Benchmark Indices Continue Trading On Positive - Jan 16, 2009

Following global sentiments, the benchmark indices continue trading on positive note. Wall Street pulled off a big turnaround on Thursday due to announcement of agreement between Bank of America and the Treasury Department, which will provide USD15 billion to USD 20 billion in new government support to the bank. Addition to this, the proactive step of government adding 3 more directors to save the ‘Satyam ship’ have brought relief for many investors. Reacting to the same the stock rebounded and trading with a smart gain of nearly 18%. Buying has emerged in Oil&Gas, Power and PSU’s stocks as the indices are trading up by 3.39%, 2.53% and 1.99% respectively. The market breadth is positive as 1108 stocks are trading in green while 729 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 190.22 points at 9,236.97 whereas NSE Nifty higher by 60.65 points at 2,797.35. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 30.89 points and 28.61 points at 3,041.71 and 3,439.09 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Reliance Communication up by (4.99%) to Rs.182.95, along with NTPC Ltd by (3.89%) to Rs.173.50, Reliance Infrastructure by (3.93%) at Rs.524, Reliance Industries by (3.79%) at Rs.1186.7, Bharti Airtel by (3.56%) at Rs.625.55 and Ranbaxy Lab by (3.56%) at Rs.223.7.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Communication up by (5.11%) to Rs.182.9 along with Reliance Infrastructure by (4.74%) at Rs.526.75, NTPC Ltd by (4.23%) at Rs.173.75, Reliance Industries by (4.17%) at Rs.1190 and Bharti Airtel by (3.91%) at Rs.627.25.

BSE Oil & Gas is trading higher by (3.39%) or 191.58 points at 5,837.61. The major gainers are Reliance Industries higher by (4.11%) at Rs.1,190.35, along with RNRL by (3.76%) at Rs.53.75, Essar Oil by (3.06%) at Rs.77.50, Gail India by (2.78%) at Rs.205.45, followed by Aban offshore by (2.68%) to Rs.603.45.

BSE Power is trading higher by (2.53%) or 42.81 points at 1,737.50. The top gainers in the index are Reliance Infra by (3.93%) to Rs.524 along with NTPC Ltd by (3.89%) to Rs.173.50, Torrent Power by (3.09%) to Rs.73.45, Suzlon Energy by (2.82%) to Rs. 49.30 followed by Tata Power by (2.40%) to Rs.755.
