markets today open marginally higher - Aug 12 , 2008

The markets today open marginally higher. The buying support is seen in the Oil & Gas, FMCG, Power and Realty stocks. However, the Banking, Auto, Metal and Consumer Durables stocks are in pressure in the early trade. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small cap are however trading higher in the opening bell.

The overall market breadth is positive as 834 stocks are advancing whereas 704 stocks are declining on BSE.

NTPC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (1.43%) at Rs.188.40 while Maruti Suzuki reported the top loser down by (2.98%) at Rs.694.15.

At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 17.27 points at 15,486.55 and the Nifty was up by 6.70 points to 4,627.10.

The BSE Mid Cap increased by 17.32 points to 6,000.01 and the BSE Small Cap advanced by 23.37 points to 7,294.73.

BSE Oil & Gas index advanced by 99.80 points to trade at 10,537.07. The major gainers are BPCL, Indian Oil, Essar Oil and HPCL grew by (1.80%), (1.18%), (0.66%) and (0.57%) to Rs.325.80, Rs.448.40, Rs.236.15 and Rs.237.40 respectively.

BSE Realty index improved by 31.77 points to trade at 5,831.14. The top gainers are Unitech increased by (1.50%) to Rs.190, DLF up by (0.52%) to Rs.571, Sobha Developers inclined by (0.29%) to Rs.292 followed by Omaxe Ltd. grew by (0.25%) to Rs.142.10.

Markets Are In A Jolly Mood - July 30, 2008

The markets are still trading higher as good amount of buying is seen in the Banking, Realty, Metal and Oil & Gas stocks. However, the FMCG index has given up their early gains and slipped into the negative territory. The BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty both are is trading with a gain of more than 3%.

Tata Power reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack. It is trading higher by (8.59%) at Rs.1,132.90 while NTPC reported the top loser down by (8.20%) at Rs.170.25.

At 2.31PM BSE Sensex is at 14,302.13 up by 510.59 points and Nifty is at 4,316.30 up by 126.45 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is higher by 101.11 points to 5,589.86 and the Small Cap advanced by 104.93 points to 6,935.95.

The BSE Bank index is the one of the top gainer today trading with a gain of 305.55 points at 6,505.15. The main gainers are ICICI Bank up by (5.08%) at Rs.638.55, HDFC Bank increased by (5.04%) at Rs.1081.20 followed by SBI and PNB inclined by (4.50%) and (3.31%) to Rs.1,378 and Rs.467 respectively.

The most active shares on NSE are L&T trading at Rs.2600 with a total traded quantity of 2177167 shares followed by ICICI Bank trading at Rs.638.90 with a total traded quantity of 5079063 shares.

Sensex Loses Over 200 pts As Blue Chips Tumble @ 10:49 hrs

After a positive start and a subsequent fall from higher levels, the market has slipped into the red now due to heavy selling in some blue chip stocks from large as well as midcap segments.

The Sensex, which opened at 17,523.81 this morning, has tumbled to 17,146.97 now, netting a big loss of 202.10 points or 1.16%. The Nifty is down 1.02% or 52.35 points at 5058.40. Earlier, after opening at 5112.25, the Nifty had spurted to 5166.90.

HDFC Bank, the biggest loser in the index at present, is down by 4.4% at Rs 1410. ICICI Bank and Bajaj Auto have lost more than 3%. Hindalco and Tata Steel are down by 2.85% and 2.15% respectively. Mahindra & Mahindra has lost 2.15%. Bharti Airtel, DLF and State Bank of India have also declined sharply.

Tata Consultancy Services, Reliance Industries, Reliance Communications, Satyam Computer Services, Reliance Energy, Larsen & Toubro, ACC, Ambuja Cements, Cipla, NTPC, Hindustan Unilever and HDFC have also drifted down sharply from their earlier high levels.

Grasim Industries, ITC, Infosys Technologies, Maruti Suzuki, ONGC, Tata Motors and Wipro hold on in the positive territory with notable gains.

Suzlon Energy, Sterlite Industries, SAIL, Reliance Petroleum, Punjab National Bank and Unitech are down with sharp losses. HCL Technologies (2.15%), Siemens (1.25%), GAIL India (0.75%) and Idea Cellular (0.75%) continue to trade positive.

Tulsi Extrusions has made a fairly strong debut this morning. At Rs 118.70, the stock is up 39.65% over its issue price of Rs 85. Around 6.85 million shares have been traded so far at the Tulsi Extrusions counter on the National Stock Exchange.

IRB Infrastructure, another stock to make its debut today, moved up to a high of Rs 200 in early trade but slipped to Rs 168 subsequently on selling pressure. At present, the stock is down with a loss of 1.95% at 181.40. Over 7.3 million shares have been traded so far at the IRB counter on NSE this morning.
