markets today open marginally higher - Aug 12 , 2008

The markets today open marginally higher. The buying support is seen in the Oil & Gas, FMCG, Power and Realty stocks. However, the Banking, Auto, Metal and Consumer Durables stocks are in pressure in the early trade. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small cap are however trading higher in the opening bell.

The overall market breadth is positive as 834 stocks are advancing whereas 704 stocks are declining on BSE.

NTPC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (1.43%) at Rs.188.40 while Maruti Suzuki reported the top loser down by (2.98%) at Rs.694.15.

At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 17.27 points at 15,486.55 and the Nifty was up by 6.70 points to 4,627.10.

The BSE Mid Cap increased by 17.32 points to 6,000.01 and the BSE Small Cap advanced by 23.37 points to 7,294.73.

BSE Oil & Gas index advanced by 99.80 points to trade at 10,537.07. The major gainers are BPCL, Indian Oil, Essar Oil and HPCL grew by (1.80%), (1.18%), (0.66%) and (0.57%) to Rs.325.80, Rs.448.40, Rs.236.15 and Rs.237.40 respectively.

BSE Realty index improved by 31.77 points to trade at 5,831.14. The top gainers are Unitech increased by (1.50%) to Rs.190, DLF up by (0.52%) to Rs.571, Sobha Developers inclined by (0.29%) to Rs.292 followed by Omaxe Ltd. grew by (0.25%) to Rs.142.10.
