Indian Benchmark Indices Are Still Trading In Red - Jan 30, 2009

After a gap down opening, the Indian benchmark indices are still trading in red territory tracking the unfavoring cues from the global markets like the weak economy data of US which claims highest unemployment rate and record fall on new house sales during the slowdown. However, giving some aid to Satyam investors and showing interest to acquire its software business, Spice group has made a formal bid to acquire 51% stake on scam-hit Satyam Computer. The selling pressure has emerged across most of the sectors such as Power, CG and Realty reported a decline of nearly 2% each. Overall the market breadth is negative as 926 stocks are trading in red while 789 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex is down by 80.94 points at 9,175.34 whereas NSE Nifty by 17.2 points at 2,806.75. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading up by 0.28 points and 1.62 points at 2,903.73 and 3,305.04 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Sun Pharmaceuticals down by (8.16%) at Rs 1049.9, along with BHEL by (4.03%) to Rs.1301, ICICI bank by (2.55%) at Rs.398, Tata Steel by (2.48%) at Rs.178.75, NTPC Ltd by (2.42%) at Rs.185.35 and Tata Motors by (2.03%) at Rs.147.5.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Sun Pharmaceuticals lower by (7.78%) at Rs.1056.9 along with BHEL by (4.15%) at Rs.1301.95, Power Grid by (3.81%) at Rs. 87, Tata Motors by (3.78%) at Rs.146.3, ICICI Bank by (2.85%) at Rs.398.4, Tata Steel by (2.78%) at Rs.178.6 and NTPC Ltd by (2.37%) at Rs.185.75.

BSE Power is trading lower by (2.28%) or 40.71 points at 1,747.69. The major losers are Crompton Greaves trading lower by (4.83%) at Rs.127.95, along with BHEL by (3.53%) at Rs.1307.85, Power Grid by (2.96%) at Rs.86.90, NTPC by (2.63%) at Rs.184.95, followed by GMR Infrastructure by (2.27%) to Rs.73.15.

BSE CG is trading lower by (1.93%) or 118.52 points at 6029.64. The major losers are Crompton Greaves trading lower by (4.43%) at Rs.128.50, along with Everest Kanto by (4.05%) at Rs.134, BHEL by (3.89%) at Rs.1303, Gammon India by (2.60%) at Rs.63.80, followed by Walchand Ind by (2.19%) to Rs.86.90.

Investors Turned To Book Profit - Jan 22, 2009

After a positive opening of the Indian benchmark indices due to overnight rally on US and most of the Asian markets, the investors turned to book profit. Despite an encouraging third quarter earnings announced by Bharti Airtel today, the investors are looking cautious ahead of quarter earnings to be announced by the country’s most valuable listed company Relinace Industries. Besides, the announcement of inflation data is also expected to drive the sentiment of the market for the day. Among the sectoral indices, Bankex, TECk and Oil & Gas surged by 1.12%, 0.94% and 0.55% respectively. Overall the market breadth is positive as 699 stocks are trading in green while 1024 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 47.82 points at 8,827 while NSE Nifty increased by 6.9 points at 2,713.05. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 31.01 points and 30.69 points at 2,925.49 and 3,341.95 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Bharti Airtel up by (3.93%) to Rs.606.55, along with ICICI Bank by (2.68%) to Rs.378.9, Jai Prakash Associate by (2.30%) at Rs.66.65, ACC Ltd by (2.09%) at Rs.488.1, Sterlite industries by (2%) to Rs.242 and Grasim Industries by (1.40%) at Rs.1157.4.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Bharti Airtel up by (4.21%) at Rs.607.6 along with Cairn India by (2.80%) at Rs.154.25, HCL Technologies by (2.55%) at Rs.118.7, ACC Ltd by (2.38%) at Rs.489 and Idea Cellular by (2.38%) at Rs.43.05.

BSE Bankex is trading higher by (1.12%) or 52.25 points at 4,697.19. The top gainers in the index are Bank of India up by (2.89%) to Rs.247.15 along with ICICI Bank by (2.68%) to Rs.378.90, Yes Bank by (2.42%) to Rs.69.75, Indus Ind Bank by (1.53%) to Rs.36.45 followed by Axis Bank by (0.80%) at Rs.411.20.

BSE TECk is trading higher by (0.94%) or 16.13 points at 1,733.47. The major gainers are Tanla Solution trading higher by (6.44%) at Rs.39.65, along with Bharti Airtel by (3.93%) at Rs.606.55, HCL Techno by (3.35%) at Rs.118.65, Jagaran Prak by (2.93%) at Rs 51, Aptech Ltd by (2.39%) at Rs 72.70 and Idea Cell by (2.38%) at Rs 43.10.

Indian Benchmark Indices Continue Trading With Negative Sentiments - Jan 20, 2009

Taking cues from its global counterparts, the Indian benchmark indices continue trading with negative sentiments. The BSE Sensex is trading nearly 3% down as foreign funds started fresh selling after Royal Bank of Scotland posted the largest loss in the UK’s banking history. The trading sentiments of investors distinctly weak as global financial crises worsened after Royal Bank of Scotland unveiled unprecedented loss in the British Corporate sectors. Heavy selling pressure has emerged across the board with Bankex, Metal and Realty leading the decline. The Bankex index on the BSE is down by 3.44%, while BSE Metal index has declined by 2.85%. The market breadth is Negative as 1127 stocks are trading in green while 712 stocks are in red.

At 11.34 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 243.39 points at 9,086.17 while NSE Nifty declined by 73.94 points at 2,772.25. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading lower by 28.87 points and 16.65 points at 3,014.66 and 3,434.8 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Bharti Airtel Ltd down by (4.78%) to Rs.616.05, along with Housing Development Finance Corporation by (4.49%) to Rs.1477, ICICI Bank by (4.42%) at Rs.394.8, Reliance Communication by (4.38%) at Rs.176.85, Sterlite industries by (3.60%) to Rs.260.9 and Maruti suzuki by (3.43%) at Rs.558.6.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Zee entertainment down by (5.16%) at Rs.124.15 along with Ambuja Cements by (4.91%) at Rs.69.7, Bharti Airtel by (4.74%) at Rs.616.2, Housing Development Finance corporation by (4.54%) at Rs.1475.85 and ICICI Bank by (4.53%) at Rs.393.9.

BSE Bankex is trading lower by (3.44%) or 171.76 points at 4,817.36. The top losers in the index are ICICI Bank down by (4.49%) to Rs.394.50 along with Axis Bank by (3.91%) to Rs.421.20, HDFC Bank by (3.30%) to Rs.908.90, Punjab National Bank by (3.29%) to Rs.440.70 followed by SBI by (3.09%) at Rs.1,111.95.

BSE Metal is trading lower by (2.85%) or 145.24 points at 4,942.80. The top losers in the index are Sesa Goa Ltd up by (4.45%) to Rs.75.10 along with SAIL by (4.42%) to Rs.79, Sterlite Industries by (3.66%) to Rs.260.75, Welspun Gujarat SR by (3.64) to Rs.91.35, followed by Tata Steel by (3.58%) to Rs.200.75.
