Indian Benchmark Indices Are Still Trading In Red - Jan 30, 2009

After a gap down opening, the Indian benchmark indices are still trading in red territory tracking the unfavoring cues from the global markets like the weak economy data of US which claims highest unemployment rate and record fall on new house sales during the slowdown. However, giving some aid to Satyam investors and showing interest to acquire its software business, Spice group has made a formal bid to acquire 51% stake on scam-hit Satyam Computer. The selling pressure has emerged across most of the sectors such as Power, CG and Realty reported a decline of nearly 2% each. Overall the market breadth is negative as 926 stocks are trading in red while 789 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex is down by 80.94 points at 9,175.34 whereas NSE Nifty by 17.2 points at 2,806.75. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading up by 0.28 points and 1.62 points at 2,903.73 and 3,305.04 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Sun Pharmaceuticals down by (8.16%) at Rs 1049.9, along with BHEL by (4.03%) to Rs.1301, ICICI bank by (2.55%) at Rs.398, Tata Steel by (2.48%) at Rs.178.75, NTPC Ltd by (2.42%) at Rs.185.35 and Tata Motors by (2.03%) at Rs.147.5.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Sun Pharmaceuticals lower by (7.78%) at Rs.1056.9 along with BHEL by (4.15%) at Rs.1301.95, Power Grid by (3.81%) at Rs. 87, Tata Motors by (3.78%) at Rs.146.3, ICICI Bank by (2.85%) at Rs.398.4, Tata Steel by (2.78%) at Rs.178.6 and NTPC Ltd by (2.37%) at Rs.185.75.

BSE Power is trading lower by (2.28%) or 40.71 points at 1,747.69. The major losers are Crompton Greaves trading lower by (4.83%) at Rs.127.95, along with BHEL by (3.53%) at Rs.1307.85, Power Grid by (2.96%) at Rs.86.90, NTPC by (2.63%) at Rs.184.95, followed by GMR Infrastructure by (2.27%) to Rs.73.15.

BSE CG is trading lower by (1.93%) or 118.52 points at 6029.64. The major losers are Crompton Greaves trading lower by (4.43%) at Rs.128.50, along with Everest Kanto by (4.05%) at Rs.134, BHEL by (3.89%) at Rs.1303, Gammon India by (2.60%) at Rs.63.80, followed by Walchand Ind by (2.19%) to Rs.86.90.
