Markets Made A Slight Recovery From Session Low - June 18, 2009

The markets have firmed up a bit after witnessing a sharp sell off today. The significant selling is seen among the Realty, Metal, Power, Capital goods and Consumer Durables stocks. However the sole IT index is bucking the trend today and is trading in positive. Further the negative opening of the European markets also turned down the sentiments. The secondline stocks are also witnessing huge selling pressure in the afternoon trade. The BSE Mid Cap is now trading with a cut of more than 2.5% and the BSE Small Cap index with a loss of more than 3.5%.

The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 14300 mark and the NSE Nifty near the 4300 mark.

The overall market breadth is negative as 433 stocks are advancing while 2119 stocks are declining in BSE.

Sun Pharmaceutical reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (1.64%) at Rs. 1,318 while ACC reported the top loser trading down by (8.43%) at Rs. 756.90.

The BSE Sensex is trading down by 193.03 points at 14,329.81 and the NSE Nifty is trading lower by 84.30 points or (1.94%) at 4,271.85.

The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 132.62 points or (2.64%) to 4,888.45 and the BSE Small Cap fell by 203.93 points or (3.52%) to 5,582.61.

The Realty index is trading with deep cut of 199.55 points or 5.89% at 3,186.95. Losers from this pack are MahindraLife trading lower by 13.16% at Rs249.10 along with HDIL by 10.42% at Rs218.70, Unitech by 9.89% at Rs75.65, Penland by 8.64% at Rs64, Indiabull Real by 6.24% at Rs187.10, Omaxe by 3.60% at Rs97.75, Akruti City by 5% at Rs503.90, Orbitco by 4.99% at Rs173.35, Ansal Infra by 4.78% at Rs57.75 and Anant Raj Inds by 4.48% at Rs99.20.

The Metal index is trading with losses of 531.31 points or 4.71% at 10,757.19. Leading from the losers pack are Jindal Saw trading down by 8.32% at Rs350 followed by JSW Steel by 8.29% at Rs580, Welspun Guj SR by 7.12% at Rs188.50, Ispat Inds by 6.70% at Rs21.60, Tata Steel by 6.35% at Rs390.50, NMDC by 5% at Rs364.20, SAIL by 4.27% at Rs151.40, Gujarat NRE Coke by 4.79% at Rs44.70 and Hind Zinc by 4.29% at Rs598.85.

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs 76.10 with a total traded quantity of 83604538 shares followed by IFCI trading at Rs.50.55 with a total traded quantity of 46757321 shares.

Tata Teleservices is trading up by 1.83% at Rs36.15. Israel based ECI Telecom bagged a $70 mn contract from Tata Teleservices on Wednesday to deliver the fixed-broadband access network across India. ECI has already rolled out the service for Tata Tele in Hyderabad as well as Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Vizag, Vijayawada, Surat and Baroda.

The broadband solution of ECI would enable TTSL to offer triple-play services and applications such as IPTV as well as video on demand, high speed broadband internet, VoIP and other bandwidth intensive services.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading lower as the FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 index are trading down (0.45%), (0.35%) and (0.36%) respectively.
