Market Traded Slow-Moving - June 25, 2009

After spectacular opening, the key benchmark indices traded positive as gainers outnumbered the losers in the index pivotal. Firm trade in Asian markets have weighed on the buying momentum of our traders. Some nervousness was seen due to forecast of a below normal monsoon rains for the first time in four years and foreign funds have been on a selling drive recently after aggressively buying during the past three months or so.

On the sectoral front, out of 13 Indices, 8 were traded in green whereas 5 were in red. Metal stocks gained after LMEX, a gauge of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange, climbed 4.8% overnight, the most since 19th March 2009. Auto stocks were lackluster on recent reports the government may hike fuel prices.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,536 stocks traded so far, 1,637 shares advanced while 821 shares declined. Nearly 78 shares are unchanged.

At 1.30PM, the BSE Sensex is trading higher by 75.78 points at 14,498.52 whereas NSE Nifty is up by 7.00 points at 4,299.95.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 58.06 points at 5,117.91 and Small cap is trading up by 66.86 points at 5,785.89.

Major gainers from the BSE Sensex pack are Housing Development Finance Co advanced 2.89% to Rs. 2,376.00 along with ICICI Bank Limited by 2.74% to Rs. 708.25, Grasim Industries Limited gained 2.62% to Rs. 2,383.20, Jaiprakash Associates Limited improved 2.46% to Rs. 218.65, Reliance Communication Limited advanced 2.26% to Rs. 308.30, Hindalco Industries Limited jumped 2.09% to Rs. 85.55, DLF Limited 1.83% to Rs. 326.35, Sterlite Industries India Limited gained 1.67% to Rs. 581.00 and ACC Limited gained 1.48% to Rs. 780.00 among others.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Tata Motors Limited plunged 4.12% to Rs. 342.30 along with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited plunged 3.29% to Rs. 700.05, ONGC Limited dipped 2.47% to Rs. 1,025.05, Maruti Suzuki plunged 2.25% to Rs. 1,036.00, Tata Steel Limited 2.07% to Rs. 398.15, NTPC Limited by 0.96% to Rs. 196.70, Hindustan Uniliver Limited 0.95% to Rs. 260.20 and ITC Limited slipped 0.65% to Rs. 197.35 among others.

The BSE Realty is higher by 97.30 points or 2.99% at 3,348.33. Stocks trading in green are Unitech Limited 7.63% to Rs. 83.95, Phoenix Mills 4.31% to Rs. 98.00, Anant Raj Industries 4.21% to Rs. 95.40, Penland Limited by 2.56% to Rs. 70.05 and Ansal Infrastructure 2.50% to Rs. 59.40 among others.

Sterlite Industries India Limited gained 1.67% to Rs. 581.00 tracking firmness in global copper after the US Federal Reserve''s comments yesterday, 24 June 2009, fuelled hopes of demand revival of the red metal globally.

HT Media Limited fell 0.10% to Rs. 97.25 despite a block deal of five lakh shares was executed on BSE at Rs. 97.50 per share.

JSL Limited retreated 4.94% to Rs. 84.60 after the company posted a net loss of Rs. 161.23 crore in Q4 March 2009 as compared to net profit of Rs. 53.11 crore in Q4 March 2008.

Jaiprakash Hydro-Power Limited galloped 5.95% to Rs. 91.75 on reports Jaiprakash Associates'' unlisted unit Jaiprakash Power Venture is set to merge with Jaiprakash Hydro-Power.

Navneet Publications (India) Limited surged 3.29% to Rs. 73.80, after net profit spurted 344.23% to Rs. 9.24 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

Wyeth Limited advanced 2.59% to Rs. 596.55 after net profit surged 52.1% to Rs. 18.50 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

Grasim Industries Limited gained 2.62% to Rs. 2,383.20. on reports it plans to absorb its unit UltraTech Cement, to consolidate the group''s cement business under one arm.

Indiabulls Financial Services Limited jumped 5% to Rs. 177.30, after a block deal of ten lakh shares was executed on BSE at Rs 173.25 per share.

ONGC Limited dipped 2.47% to Rs. 1,025.05 after net profit declined 16% to Rs. 2,206.76 crore on 12.3% fall in sales to Rs. 13,703.80 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

ACC Limited gained 1.48% to Rs. 780.00, after a unit of the company entered into an agreement with the Madhya Pradesh State Mining Corporation for setting up a joint venture company for coal mining.
