Asian Markets Across The Strong Sentiment With Marginal Gains - June 25, 2009

After a positive start, the major domestic bourses are trading with marginal gains on the back of strong sentiments across the other Asian markets. On the other hand, covering of short positions on the last day of monthly derivatives contracts also helped to lift the investors’ sentiments. On a stock specific move, Jaiprakash Hydropower is trading higher by over 6% after a news that Jaiprakash Power Venture, a unit of construction firm of Jaiprakash Associates, is set to merge with Jaiprakash Hydro Power Limited.

During the last hours'' trading session, buying interest has emerged across Realty, IT and TECk stocks whereas moderate selling interest seen across FMCG and Oil & Gas counters.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty, IT and TECk stocks surged by 2.88%, 1.67% and 1.61% respectively, while the FMCG and Oil & Gas indices declined by 0.31% and 0.06% respectively.

Overall the market breadth is positive as 1,583 stocks are trading in green while 548 stocks are in red.

The BSE Sensex surged by 77.73 points at 14,500.47 while NSE Nifty marginal down by 2.25 points at 4,290.7.

Besides, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading higher by 59.09 points and 77.43 points at 5,118.94 and 5,796.46 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Sterlite Industries up by (3.41%) to Rs. 590.95, along with Grasim Industries by (3.06%) to Rs. 2,393.3, Hindalco Industries by (2.39%) at Rs. 85.8, HDFC by (2.20%) at Rs. 2,360.05, Jaiprakash associates by (2.16%) at Rs. 218 and ICICI Bank Limited by (1.68%) at Rs. 700.9.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Tata Motors declined by (2.45%) at Rs. 348.5 along with ONGC by (2.36%) at Rs. 1,026.15, Mahindra and Mahindra Limited by (2.13%) at Rs. 709.1, Tata Steel by (1.94%) at Rs. 399.1, Hindustan Unilever Limited by (1.50%) at Rs. 259 and NTPC Limited by (1.44%) at Rs. 195.6.

BSE Realty is trading higher by (2.88%) or 93.63 points at 3,344.66. The major gainers are Phoenix Mill inclined by (9.53%) at Rs. 102.90 along with Unitech by (5.64%) at Rs. 82.40, Anant Raj Industries by (4.97%) at Rs. 96.10, Penland Limited by (3.22%) at Rs. 70.50 followed by Ansal Infra by (2.85%) at Rs. 59.60.

BSE IT is trading higher by (1.67%) or 54.46 points at 3,323.28. The top gainers in the index are Oracle finance by (3.95%) to Rs. 1,315 along with NIIT Limited by (3.65%) to Rs. 61.10, Patni Computers by (3.31%) to Rs. 260.50, followed by Rolta India by (3.11%) to Rs. 134.15.
