Benchmark Indices Are Trading Positive - Jan 28, 2009

The key benchmark indices are trading positive on the back of strong support from its global counterparts. Along with this, auto sectors got a boost after the UK government announced aid package for UK carmakers, which is ultimately beneficial for Tata motors for its JLR wing. However, investors turned cautious ahead of the expiry of January series derivatives contract, which is making market to trade range bound. Maximum sectoral indices on the BSE are trading in the green turf with FMCG, Auto, IT, PSU and Oil&Gas stocks leading the gains. The BSE FMCG index has surged by 1.71%, along with BSE Auto index which trading higher by 1.57%. Overall, the market breadth is positive as 1043 stocks are trading in green while 824 stocks are in red.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex up by 51.53 points at 9,055.61 while NSE Nifty surged by 19.29 points at 2,790.65. The BSE Mid Cap and BSE Small Cap are trading higher by 10.46 points and 17.85 points at 2878.33 and 3,284.39 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd up by (3.25%) to Rs.281.05, along with Wipro Ltd by (3.23%) to Rs.233.45, Tata Motors by (2.99%) at Rs.144.5, ONGC by (2.90%) at Rs.639, Grasim industries by (2.75%) to Rs.1213 and ACC Ltd by (2.61%) at Rs.499.5.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Zee Entertainment up by (8.15%) at Rs.106.1 along with Unitech Ltd by (7.37%) at Rs.29.15, Idea Cellular by (4.16%) at Rs.46.35, Tata Communications by (3.58%) at Rs.459.6 and Gail India by (3.50%) at Rs.195.25.

BSE FMCG is trading higher by (1.71%) or 33.38 points at 1,990.51. The top gainers in the index are United Spirits surged by (9.47%) to Rs.543.50 along with United Brew by (2.93%) to Rs.72.05, Ruchi Soya by (2.39%) to Rs. 19.30, ITC Ltd by (2.28%) to Rs.174.80, followed by HUL by (1.09%) at Rs.255.85.

BSE Auto is trading higher by (1.57%) or 37.96 points at 2,449.46. The top gainers in the index are Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd up by (3.60%) to Rs.282 along with Cummins Ind by (3.28%) to Rs.203.35, Tata Motors by (3.21%) to Rs.144.80, Ashok Leylnd by (1.82%) to Rs.14, followed by Maruti Suzuki by (1.39%) to Rs.544.90.
