Markets Are Trading Downturn - Sep 16, 2008

Indian Markets are trading downturn after showing some recovery on some bouts of buying. NSE Nifty is trading below 4,000 level and BSE Sensex is around 13,200 mark. The BSE Midcap and Smallcap stocks are also under pressure as trading with cut of around 3%. All indices are trading in red and among those Metal, Capital Goods, Reality, Pharma and IT stocks are major sufferers of negative sentiment. Among the Sensex pack, 28 stocks are trading in red and 2 are in green.

The global financial sector crisis continues on Tuesday after insurance giant AIG is downgraded by ratings agencies. American International Group Inc sank 61% and Washington Mutual Inc. decreased 27%. Crude oil for October delivery fell to $91.65 a barrel. Oil has dropped more than 35% from the record $147.27 a barrel reached on July 11.

At 1.31PM, the BSE Sensex is trading lower by 377.00 points at 13,153.50 and NSE Nifty is down by 80.90 points at 3,992.00.

The BSE Mid Cap and Small cap are trading lower by 153.00 points and 172.00 points at 5,134.94 and 6,208.16 respectively.

Losers from the BSE are ICICI Bank Ltd trading down by (9.64%) at Rs567.40 in line with Satyam Comp by (8.27%) at Rs337.70, JP Associates by (7.57%) at Rs136.15, DLF Ltd by (5.80%) at Rs407.50, Wipro Ltd by (4.36%) at Rs384.75, Ranbaxy Lab by (4.16%) at Rs402.00 and Tata Steel (4.04%) at Rs479.80.

The BSE Metal index is trading lower by 328.55 points at Rs10,062.29 as Guajrat NRE C is trading down by (8.40%) at Rs69.80 along with Welspan Guajrat Sr (8.01%) at Rs256.00, Sesa Goa Ltd (7.69%) at Rs119.40, Hindustan Zinc by (6.78%) at Rs487.00 and Jindal Steel (6.14%) at Rs1,410.00.

The BSE Capital Goods index is trading down by 266.68 points at Rs11,100.24 as Jyoti Struct is trading lower by (8.58%) at Rs105.50 followed by Walchand Industries (6.43%) at Rs227.80, Reliance Industrial Infra (6.22%) at Rs727.80, Gammon Indi by (5.23%) at Rs183.20 and Aiaengineer (5.12%) at Rs1,515.00.

From the telecommunication sector, Tata Communications is trading up by (4.06%) at Rs411.00 along with Idea Cellular by (2.50%) at Rs80.10. However, Reliance Com Ltd is trading down by (3.19%) at Rs358.25 and Bharti Airtel by (2.23%) at Rs749.10.

In auto sector Hero Honda Motors is higher by (3.62%) at Rs856.30 followed by Tata Motors up by (1.10%) at Rs394.75, while Maruti Suzuki is trading down by (2.32%) at Rs704.00.

From cement sector by Ambuja Cement is trading up by (0.13%) at Rs79.05, while Grasim Indus is trading down by (1.56%) at Rs1900.00 and ACC Ltd by (2.84%) at Rs580.20
