The markets today open flat but suddenly lost its momentum and slipped below to trade in the negative territory. The markets are choppy ahead of the F&O expiry for the month of September today. The selective buying is among the FMCG, Pharma, Banking and Consumer Durables stocks. However, the IT, Realty, Power, Oil & Gas and Metal stocks are trading lower in the opening trade.
The BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap stocks are however trading marginally lower in the early trade.
The BSE Sensex is now trading around the 13600 level and the NSE Nifty is now hovering around the 4100 mark.
The overall market breadth is negative as 701 stocks are advancing whereas 851 stocks are declining on BSE.
ITC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (2.13%) at Rs.196.95 while Sterlite Industries reported the top loser down by (2.64%) at Rs.474.70.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 67.79 points at 13,624.73 and the Nifty was down by 30.10 points to 4,131.15.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 6.85 points to 5,119.93 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 6.26 points to 6,095.25.
BSE Bank index advanced by 22.42 points or (0.33%) to trade at 6,909.07. The top gainers are AXIS Bank increased by (1.20%) to Rs.719, Kotak Bank up by (0.86%) to Rs.608.80, Indus Ind Bank inclined by (0.27%) to Rs.55.90 followed by ICICI Bank grew by (0.50%) to Rs.603.15.
BSE IT index slipped by 41.05 points or (1.20%) to trade at 3,376.06. The major losers are Satyam Computer, TCS, Infosys Technologies and Wipro fell by (1.92%), (1.67%), (1.42%) and (0.90%) to Rs.327.50, Rs.701.50, Rs.1,502 and Rs.367.40 respectively.
BHEL is trading lower by (0.27%) at Rs.1,659.30. The company has sought out locations to set up greenfield units for manufacturing nuclear power equipment in Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
Reliance is trading higher by (0.40%) at Rs.161.95. The company is planning to invest over Rs.60,000 crore in renewable and alternative energy resources such as hydroelectric, wind, solar and fuel cell based power.
