Markets Gains Supplementary Position - May 29, 2009

The markets are still trading with healthy gains led by strong buying witnessed across the board. Further the positive opening of the European markets also supported the markets. The oil & gas stocks jumped today backed by news from the oil ministry that the government is considering deregulation of oil prices.

Also, the GDP for the fourth quarter of the current fiscal that stood at 5.8% from a year earlier, gives a further boost to the investors sentiments. However, the GDP for the current fiscal 2008-09 as a whole was down 6.7% as against the previous projection of 7.1%. The previous fiscal GDP was 8.8%.

Further the buying interest also continued among the Realty, Capital Goods, Metal and Auto stocks. The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 14,700 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 4,450 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 2235 stocks are advancing while 512 stocks are declining in BSE.

ACC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (9.39%) at Rs. 789 while Sun Pharma reported the top loser trading down by (9.13%) at Rs. 1,198.

BSE Sensex is at 14,712.28 up by 416.27 points and Nifty is at 4,481.80 up by 144.70 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 147.57 points at 5,083.13 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 196.26 points to 6,007.95.

The Realty index is trading with strong gains of 190.23 points or 5.32% at 3,768.17. Pushing it are Ansal Infra trading up by 9.98% at Rs67.75 along with Phoenix Mill by 9.97% at Rs137.90, Orbitco by 9.34% at Rs171, Omaxe by 8.55% at Rs105.35, Unitech by 7.48% at Rs81.95, Indiabull Real by 7.07% at Rs241.50, Anant Raj inds by 4.98% at Rs127.45, Parsvnath by 4.99% at Rs96.80, Akruti City by 4.83% at Rs492.95 and DLF by 4.65% at Rs389.30.

The Oil and Gas is trading higher 470.99 points or 4.67% at Rs10,556.86. Gainers from this pack are HPCL trading up by 11.99% at Rs375.55 followed by IOCL by 11.03% at Rs632.80, Cairn India by 7.77% at Rs235, BPCL by 7.33% at Rs481, Gail India by 7.11% at Rs306.70, ONGC by 6.83% at Rs1208, RNRL by 4.80% at Rs84, RPL by 3.61% at Rs143.55 and Reliance industries by 3.54% at Rs2298.50.

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs 82.35 with a total traded quantity of 89424764 shares followed by Suzlon Energy trading at Rs.95.70 with a total traded quantity of 41346866 shares.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading higher as the FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 index are trading up by (1.20%), (1.22%) and (1.28%) respectively.

IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Limited has posted a net profit of Rs 798.823 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 733.028 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008. Total Income has increased from Rs 13227.416 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 16359.305 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.

Market Sentiments The GDP Information Drifted - May 29, 2009

After a spectacular opening the key bench market indices spurred on better than expected fourth quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data which grew by 5.8% for Jan-Mar quarter as compared to 5.3%. The market anticipated GDP at 5%. Further, bounce back in global markets also supported the market momentum.

Meanwhile, Swiss Bank UBS AG''s lead India economic indicator was up for the fourth consecutive month in April 2009, indicating to a rebound in industrial activity by June 2009.

On the sectoral front, all 13 Indices were trading in green. Bank stocks rose on expectations that the UPA government will spur financial sector reforms.

Metal stocks spurted on strong domestic demand and on rise in US copper futures. Realty stocks advanced on expectations that stability at the Centre will attract FDI into the sector which in turn will boost growth.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,759 stocks traded so far, 2,216 shares advanced while 488 shares declined. Nearly 55 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Sensex is trading higher by 372.65 points at 14,668 and NSE Nifty is up by 126.64 points at 4,463.75.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 129.73 points at 5,265.30 and Small cap is trading up by 180.03 points at 5,991.73.

Major gainers from the BSE Sensex pack are Mahindra & Mahindra zoomed 8.14% to Rs. 690.00 along with ACC Limited advanced 7.01% to Rs. 771.80, ONGC Limited by 6.74% to Rs. 1,207.00, Jaiprakash Associates by 6.41% to Rs. 204.05, TCS Limited spurted 4.80% to Rs. 691.50, Larsen & Toubro Limited by 4.11% to Rs. 1,397.00, Tata Steel Limited by 3.77% to Rs. 398.05, Bharti Airtel Limited by 3.55% to Rs. 823.40 and DLF Limited spurted 3.31% to Rs. 384.30 among others.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Sun Pharmaceuticals Limited plunged 6.55% to Rs. 1,232.00 along with Grasim Industries Limited fell 0.33% to Rs. 2,177.00, and Tata Power Limited by 0.22% to Rs. 1,095.00.

The BSE Realty is higher by 144.51 points or 4.04% at 3,722.45. Stocks trading in green are Phoenix Mills Limited spurted 9.97% to Rs. 137.90, Ansal Infra Limited surged 8.36% to Rs. 66.75, Orbitco Limited by 5.63% to Rs. 165.20, Akruti City 5.00%% to Rs. 493.75 and Parsvnath by 4.99% to Rs. 96.80.

Aro Granite Industries Limited advanced 19.79% to Rs. 52.05, after the company said its board will meet on 8 June 2009 to consider buyback of equity shares.

Visa Steel Limited surged 3.66% to Rs. 29.75 on reports the firm expects to grow at 15-20% in the financial year-ending March 2010 and plans to raise Rs 2500 crore for expansion.

Bajaj Electricals Limited galloped 10% at Rs. 423.05, extending gains for the third consecutive day, after net profit surged 42.90% to Rs 47.47 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

DLF Limited spurted 3.31% to Rs. 384.30 on reports promoters are planning to sell another 5.5% stake to raise Rs 1000-1500 crore.

Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited advanced 3.21% to Rs. 130.15, after consolidated net profit rose 8.28% to Rs 181.34 crore in the year ended March 2009 over the year ended March 2008.

Mahindra & Mahindra zoomed 8.14% to Rs. 690.00 extending recent gains after net profit jumped 89% to Rs 418.07 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

Siemens Limited inclined 3.19% to Rs. 493.65 after the company said it will invest Rs 275 crore to triple the capacity of its steam turbine facility located at Vadodara in Gujarat.

Tata Motors Limited improved 1.83% to Rs. 338.75 after it launched a new range of premium trucks called on Thursday, 28 May 2009, which is expected to give its commercial vehicles business a much-needed push.

GMR Infrastructure Limited billed up 2.40% to Rs. 166.60, after the company won an order for a highway project in Andhra Pradesh through international bidding process.

Market Witness Sharp Rally: Realty Among The Top Gainer - May 29, 2009

After opening on a rousing note this morning, the frontline stocks are continuously marching towards the northward on account of overnight rally in the US market and steady trend on most of the Asian bourses. Besides, today being the first session of new settlements in the derivatives segment turned investors bullish on some sector specific stocks.

However, investors will keep an eye on the GDP data, which is expected to be announced today. On a stock specific news, Reliance Power is trading higher by nearly 2% after an announcement that the company is in talks with Australian mining firms BHP Billiton and Rio Tinto for a coal mining joint venture to develop mines allocated to the company and supply coal to its power plants. During the last hours'' trading session, buying interest has emerged across all the sectoral indices.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty, Captial Goods (CG) and Consumer Durable (CD) stocks gained by 5.18%, 3.70% and 3.35% respectively.

Overall the market breadth is positive as 2038 stocks are trading in green while 413 stocks are in red.

The BSE Sensex is up by 271.4 points at 14,567.42 while NSE Nifty surged by 77.75 points at 4,414.85. Besides, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading higher by 127.56 points and 169.79 points at 5,063.13 and 5,981.49 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Mahindra & Mahindra surged by (7.08%) to Rs. 684.05, along with Jai prakash associates by (6.54%) to Rs. 204.3, ACC Ld by (5.62%) at Rs. 761.8, TCS Limited by (4.59%) at Rs. 690.15, Bharti Airtel by (4.53%) at Rs. 831.2 and DLF Limited by (3.83%) at Rs. 386.25.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Unitech Limited up by (7.08%) at Rs. 81.65 along with Mahindra & Mahindra by (7.02%) at Rs. 681.7, Bharti Airtel by (4.73%) at Rs. 833.55, ACC Limited by (4.34%) at Rs. 759.1, SAIL by (4.26%) at Rs. 171.5 and Siemens Limited by (4.17%) at Rs. 499.1.

BSE Realty is trading higher by (5.18%) or 185.39 points at 3,763.33. The major gainers are Phoenix mill up by (9.97%) at Rs. 137.90 along with Unitech Limited by (7.41%) at Rs. 81.90, Ansal Infras by (6.74%) at Rs. 65.75 followed by India bull real by (5.72%) at Rs. 238.45.

BSE CG is trading higher by (3.70%) or 423.24 points at 11,871.96. The top gainers in the index are AIA engineer surged by (13.66%) to Rs. 253.80 along with Jyoti Struct by (9.98%) to Rs. 143.85, Areva by (8.01%) to Rs. 340 followed by Alstom Project by (5.50%) at Rs. 472.

Markets Are At A Standstill Trading Superior - May 28, 2009

The markets slipped off from the day’s high reacting to the negative opening of the European Markets However the markets are still trading higher as buying interest continued among the Metal, Capital Goods, Oil & Gas and Banking stocks. The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 14,250 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 4,300 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1730 stocks are advancing while 974 stocks are declining in BSE.

Mahindra & Mahindra reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (4.51%) at Rs. 653.50 while Tata Motors reported the top loser trading down by (2.84%) at Rs. 333.80.

BSE Sensex is at 14,263.33 up by 153.69 points and Nifty is at 4,317.15 up by 41.10 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 27.49 points at 4,924.86 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 16.92 points to 5,814.66.

The Metal index is trading with decent gains of 278.15 points or 2.71% at 10,544.94. Leading the rally are JSW Steel trading up by 11.94% at Rs 577.55 along with NMDC by 8.09% at Rs415, SAIL by 5.71% at Rs163, Jai Corp by 4.99% at Rs261.10, Sterlite Industries by 3.21% at Rs610.10, Tata Steel by 2.67% at Rs383.20, Ispat Industries by 1.53% at Rs24.51, Welspun Guj by 1.49% at Rs166.80 and Jindal Saw by 1.22% at Rs372.

The Capital Goods index is trading higher by . Gainers from this pack are Elecon Eng trading higher by 4.98% at Rs86.40 in line with Siemens by 3.78% at Rs481, Jyoti Structures by 3.03% at Rs130.85, L&T by 2.34% at Rs1342.15, ABB by 2.16% at Rs621, Punj Lloyd by 2.02% at Rs189.50, Gammon India by 1.50% at Rs169.70 and Alstom Projects by 1.01% at Rs453.

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs 76.60 with a total traded quantity of 55629078 shares followed by Ispat Inds trading at Rs.24.55 with a total traded quantity of 40531122 shares.

SAIL is trading up by 5.71% at Rs163. The Company has posted a net profit of Rs 14866.80 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 23767.60 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008.

Total Income has decreased from Rs 138569.50 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 125901.20 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.

L&T is trading up by 2.34% at Rs1342.15. The Company has posted a profit after tax of Rs 9985.20 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 9667.60 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008.

Total Income has increased from Rs 87372.10 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 108357.90 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading lower as the FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 index are trading down by (1.28%), (1.46%) and (1.09%) respectively.

Market Trading Calm Resting On Explosive Assembly - May 28, 2009

After a subdued opening the volatility seems to have caught the day''s trade ahead of F&O expiry today. The mixed global cues are also adding fuel to fire the volatility. In a major concern, the global rating agency Moody''s Investors Service said India''s credit rating may come under pressure if the government is not bale to restrict its widening budget deficit.

On the sectoral front, out of 13 Indices, majority of the Indices were trading in green while Banking, Health Care and Consumer durables were under pressure. Metal stocks traded mixed as copper dropped around 2% on the London Metal Exchange overnight.

Capital Goods stocks advanced on expectations of increased infrastructure spending by the UPA government to boost growth. Healthcare stocks gained on hopes UPA government will give primary importance to healthcare segment and health of citizens.

Realty stocks continued its gains on expectations that stability at the Centre will attract more FDI into the sector which in turn will boost growth.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,703 stocks traded so far, 1,717 shares advanced while 927 shares declined. Nearly 59 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Sensex is trading higher by 189.20 points at 14,308 and NSE Nifty is up by 53.39 points at 4,329.45.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 44.88 points at 4,942.25 and Small cap is trading up by 33.06 points at 5,830.80.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited rose 0.71% to Rs. 2,093.00, on profit taking after a recent sharp surge.

LIC Housing Finance Limited surged 7.30% to Rs. 513.60 after the company said its board will meet on 1 June 2009 to consider issuing shares on a preferential basis and qualified institutional placement of shares.

Torrent Power Limited fell nearly 0.11% to Rs. 142.10 after a block deal of five lakh shares was executed on NSE at Rs 144 per share.

Bharti Airtel Limited spurted 2.94% to Rs. 791.50 on value buying after the stock fell 10.36% in the preceding three trading sessions.

Religare Enterprises zoomed 2.28% to Rs. 464.90 on reports it is in talks with Swiss Re, the world''s second-largest re-insurer, to form a joint venture health insurance company in India.

Jindal Steel & Power Limited rose 0.25% to Rs. 2,086.20 after consolidated net profit jumped 140.65% to Rs 3007.15 crore in the year ended March 2009 over the year ended March 2008.

Novartis India Limited jumped 14.19% to Rs. 444.90 after its Swiss parent raised open offer price to Rs. 450 a share from Rs. 351 a share earlier.

Bulls Lay The Blame On Once More Sensex Gains 1 Per Cent - May 28, 2009

Extending yesterday’s rally, the key benchmark indices are trading firm on the back of hefty buying by funds and retail investors with the hope of an acceleration in economic reforms by the new Congress-led UPA government. This rally is further supported by covering-up of short positions by speculators as today is the last session of current month''s expiry in the derivatives segment.

On a stock specific news, Infosys Technologies is trading higher by over 1% on account of a news that company is chasing new contracts worth USD100-250 mn from its existing customer, British Petroleum.

During the last hours'' trading session, buying interest has emerged across Realty, Consumer Goods (CG) and Oil & Gas, whereas some profit booking seen across Banking counter.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty, Consumer Goods (CG) and Oil & Gas stocks gained by 2.01%, 1.56% and 1.54% respectively, while BSE Bankex index is down by 0.40%.

Overall the market breadth is positive as 1625 stocks are trading in green while 766 stocks are in red.

The BSE Sensex is up by 137.48 points at 14,247.13 while NSE Nifty surged by 36.89 points at 4,312.95. Besides, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading higher by 17.19 points and 17.28 points at 4,914.57 and 5,815.02 respectively.

Gainers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Bharti Airtel surged by (2.87%) to Rs. 791, along with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited by (2.85%) to Rs. 643.15, ACC Limited by (2.39%) at Rs. 726, L&T Limited by (2.31%) at Rs. 1,341.7, Ranbaxy Lab by (2.16%) at Rs. 267.5 and Sun Pharmaceutical by (1.99%) at Rs. 1,344.85.

Gainers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Siemens Limited up by (3.85%) at Rs. 481.5 along with Bharti Airtel by (2.82%) at Rs. 790.5, Mahindra & Mahindra by (2.82%) at Rs. 643.75, ABB Limited by (2.82%) at Rs. 625, Reliance Capital by (2.66%) at Rs. 944.5 and L&T Limited by (2.27%) at Rs. 1342.

BSE Realty is trading higher by (2.01%) or 70.68 points at 3,587.45. The major gainers are Anant Raj up by (4.97%) at Rs. 121.40 along with Indiabul Real by (3.90%) at Rs. 211.95, DLF Limited by (2.34%) at Rs. 374.05 followed by Mahindra Life by (1.42%) at Rs. 275.80.

BSE CG is trading higher by (1.56%) or 175.73 points at 11,428.19. The top gainers in the index are Jyoti Struct surged by (6.30%) to Rs. 135 along with Elecon Eng by (4.86%) to Rs. 86.30, Siemens Limited by (3.56%) to Rs. 480 followed by SKF India by (3.23%) at Rs. 225.

Market Continued Its Growth - May 27, 2009

The markets are now trading firm backed by strong buying sentiments prevailing in the other Asian markets. The global cues have resurrected the confidence of domestic investors despite the fact that tomorrow the F&O will expire. Rate sensitive sectors like Bankex and Realty are leading the rally along with other indices like Metal, PSU and CG.

On global perspective Asian stock are on surge led by sectors like automakers and mining companies, as the US consumer confidence data has jumped the most in the six years resulting surge in commodity prices as well. There could be a possibility of minor hiccups in the benchmark indices due to the cautiousness ahead of the F&O expiry tomorrow.

On the sectoral front, traders on-loaded positions across the sectors except FMCG Indices. Oil exploration firms advanced on a higher crude oil prices. IT stocks gained on hopes of attracting new contracts from US which is the biggest market for India IT firms.

Metal stocks surged on firm metal prices on London Metal Exchange. Capital Goods stocks advanced on expectations of increased infrastructure spending by UPA government to boost growth. Banking stocks advanced on hopes the UPA government will pursue financial sector reforms.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,728 stocks traded so far, 2,184 shares advanced while 498 shares declined. Nearly 46 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Sensex is trading higher by 407.16 points at 13,996 and NSE Nifty is up by 118.37 points at 4,235.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 143.50 points at 4,867.59 and Small cap is trading up by 154.49 points at 5,763.15.

The BSE Realty is higher by 168.25 points or 5.08% at 3,482.99. Stocks trading in green are DLF Limited spurted 7.49% to Rs. 362.15, Sobha Developers Limited surged 7.00% to Rs. 193.40, Anant Raj Industries by 4.99% to Rs. 115.65, Unitech Limited 4.95%% to Rs. 76.40 and Housing Development Infra by 4.88% to Rs. 227.50.

Shanthi Gears Limited advanced 9.31% to Rs. 44.60 after net profit rose 17.07% to Rs 13.92 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

ITC Limited slipped 1.11% to Rs. 182.15 on reports the company will suspend production at all its factories in a phased manner to introduce pictorial warnings on cigarette packs from 1 June 2009.

Sun Pharmaceuticals Industries Limited advanced 1.30% to Rs. 1,323.75 after the company got US drug regulator''s nod for a generic drug.

Sobha Developers Limited surged 7.00% to Rs. 193.40 after the company sold stakes in projects in Bangaluru and other cities for Rs 225 crore to Bangaluru-based Purna Partners.

IVRCL Infrastructures & Projects Limited spurted 4.50% to Rs. 283.15 after the company bagged an order worth Rs 299 crore.

TRF Limited zoomed by 5% at Rs. 588.80 after the company said its board will meet on 16 June 2009 to consider issue of bonus shares.

Reliance Communication Limited spurted 3.62% to Rs. 302.00 after the company''s shareholders approved de-merger of its optic fibre division and its merger with Reliance Infratel, a subsidiary of Reliance Communications

Cummins India Limited galloped 5.66% to Rs. 265.00 after net profit surged 56.32% to Rs 118.18 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

Market Plunged Due To Profit Booking - May 26, 2009

After a subdued opening trade the markets are now trading range bound. The MidCap and SmallCap stocks had outperformed the benchmark indices during the preceding trading sessions and therefore today these stocks are facing some profit booking pressures. On a broader level the sentiments are very lethargic amidst lack of supportive news from other markets.

Market moved alternately between positive and negative zones. After hitting a fresh intraday low, the markets pared losses with marginal upside movement in mid-morning trade.

On the sectoral front, traders off-loaded positions across the sectors except IT, CD and HC Indices. Oil&Gas stocks retreated on reports the new UPA government plants to cap profits of crude oil production as part of a transparent and sustainable subsidy-sharing system for the sector.

IT stocks grew as rupee cooled off after a recent solid surge. Capital goods stocks advanced on expectations of increased infrastructure spending by the UPA government to boost growth. Auto stocks melt down on concerns a partial decontrol of petrol and diesel prices will result in an immediate rise in petrol and diesel prices. Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited plunged 7.12% to Rs. 247.70 along with Reliance Communication fell 5.99% to Rs. 302.95, Tata Motors Limited by 4.68% to Rs. 329.75, Bharti Airtel slipped 4.50% to Rs. 774.90, ICICI Bank by 3.43% to Rs. 679.40 and NTPC Limited by 3.17% to Rs. 206.00 among others.

The BSE Realty is lower by 69.42 points or 2.01% at 3,382.02. Stocks trading in red are Housing Development & Infrastructure Limited plunged 5.72% to Rs. 276.80, Sobha Developers by 5.38% to Rs. 183.05, Mahindra LIfeScience by 4.11% to Rs. 269.05, Unitech Limited 3.11%% to Rs. 77.15 and DLF Limited by 2.78% to Rs. 352.05.

IG Petrochemicals Limited zoomed 0.44% to Rs. 34.25 after net profit jumped 103.20% to Rs 7.68 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

Kotak Mahindra Bank Limited slipped by 5.71% to Rs. 644.00 on profit taking after the stock rose 10.65% in the preceding two trading sessions.

Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited slipped 6.92% to Rs. 248.25 on reports the firm could take a hit of as much as $50 million due to a delay in supplying a key ingredient to UK''s AstraZeneca used to make anti-ulcer drug, Nexium.

NIIT Limited fell 8.75% to Rs. 48.50 on profit taking after the stock had spurted over 85% in the preceding eight trading sessions.

Spanco surged 7.70% to Rs. 58.05 after a block deal of 10.90 lakh shares was executed on BSE at Rs. 56.55 per share.

Dishman Pharmaceuticals & Chemicals Limited spurted 19.99% to Rs. 174.40 after net profit rose 235.60% to Rs 31.41 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.

Tantia Constructions Limited surged 4.95% at Rs. 54.10 after the company bagged an order worth Rs 58.15 crore.

Bharti Airtel slipped 4.50% to Rs. 774.90 on fears that the merger deal with MTN could lead to substantial dilution of Bharti''s equity and earnings per share.

Volatility Grips The Markets In The Present Day - May 25, 2009

The markets lost further grounds after witnessing a sharp volatile trade. The selling pressure witnessed among the frontline indices today. However the broader market indices have maintained their upward rally and were outperforming the benchmark index. Shares of Consumer durables, Realty, FMCG, Pharma and Metal socks were witnessing significant buying interest today. However, selective IT stocks are under pressure.

The BSE Mid Cap is now trading with a gain of more than 2% and the BSE Small Cap with a gain of more than 4%.

The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 13,900 mark and the NSE Nifty around the 4,200 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 2377 stocks are advancing while 343 stocks are declining in BSE.

Ranbaxy Laboratories reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (20.89%) at Rs. 267.05 while Bharti Airtel reported the top loser trading down by (7.45%) at Rs. 793.90.

BSE Sensex is at 13,879.47 down by 7.68 points and Nifty is at 4,217.95 down by 20.55 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 115.72 points at 4,871.40 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 240.78 points to 5,753.94.

The Realty index is trading with decent gains of 112.71 points or 3.40% at 3,423.50. The Consumer Durables index is trading up by 84.46 points or 3.37% at 2,592.25. Gainers from this pack are Videocon Inds trading higher by 10.09% at Rs158.75 in line with Gitanjali GE by 9.67% at Rs108.30, Rajesh Exports by 5.96% at Rs40.90 and Titan Inds by 2.68% at Rs1051.10.

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs 75.20 with a total traded quantity of 50176102 shares followed by RNRL trading at Rs.81.55 with a total traded quantity of 47583776 shares.

Parsvnath Developers is trading up by 8.91% at Rs88. The company announced that its Board of Directors at its meeting held on May 23, 2009, has decided to raise funds by various means including through issuance of further securities to persons other than the existing equity Shareholders of the Company and also by way of Qualified Institutions Placement (QIP) to Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs) as provided under Chapter XIII A of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Disclosure and Investor Protection) Guidelines, 2000 for an aggregate sum upto Rs 2500 Crores (Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred Crores) and to seek the approval of the Shareholders for the said purpose.

Market Trading Unexciting - May 25, 2009

The key benchmark indices leaped towards northward after a choppy morning session. This volatility was seen due to mixed cues from Asian markets and also discouraging news from the US market that governments borrowing cost climbed to a six month high and investors sold shares before the holiday. Close home, MidCap and SmallCap outperformed the benchmark Sensex.

On the sectoral front, traders on-loaded positions across the sectors except Oil&Gas Indices. Oil&Gas stocks retreated on reports the new UPA government plants to cap profits of crude oil production as part of a transparent and sustainable subsidy-sharing system for the sector. IT stocks dipped after the Federal Reserve recently disclosed in its minutes from the last rate-setting meeting that it lowered its forecast for growth of the US economy this year on the back of weakness in the first quarter.

Meanwhile, Auto stocks boosted on hopes the new government will support auto sector as a priority sector and attend to some pressing concerns of the sector, mainly differential excise duty, scope of retail finance and infrastructure development. Further, Metal stocks gained after a gauge of six metals in London advanced.

Godrej Industries Ltd surged by 4.98% at Rs. 132.75 after the company said it has started buying back shares from the open market from today, 25 May 2009.

Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd spurted 20.62% to Rs. 266.45 after the company''s chief executive officer Malvinder Singh quit the company, raising hopes that the new management with a global know how will strengthen the company.

Bharti Airtel Ltd plunged 3.89% to Rs. 824.50 despite the company said it was exploring a potential deal to buy 49% in South African telecom firm MTN.

Market Turned Volatile - May 25, 2009

After opening on a positive note, the major Indian bourses drifted lower on account of mixed cues from global indices and F&O expiry ahead of this week. The domestic traders are trading cautiously as most of the Asian markets gave up its early gains after North Korea conducted a nuclear test.

On a stock specific news, Suzlon Energy is trading down by nearly 4% after a term sheet showed the company''s founders are selling about USD 120 million worth of existing shares at a discount of up to 3% to their Friday’s closing price. During the last hours'' trading session, buying interest is seen across Realty, Consumer Durable (CD) and Metal stocks whereas selling pressure has emerged across IT, Oil & Gas and Banking counters.

Markets Back In Positive Territory - May 22, 2009

The markets gained some grounds from the session lows but the volatility still persists. The Capital Goods, Banking, Oil & Gas and Pharma stocks are attracting significant buying attention today. However, Consumer Durables, Auto, Realty and Metal stocks are still reeling under pressure. The Mid Cap and the Small Cap stocks also gained further momentum as the BSE Mid Cap is now trading with a gain of more than 1% and the BSE Small Cap with a gain of more than 2%.

The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 13,850 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 4,200 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1930 stocks are advancing while 719 stocks are declining in BSE.

ICICI Bank reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (4.57%) at Rs. 703 while ONGC reported the top loser trading down by (4.16%) at Rs. 1,030.

BSE Sensex is at 13,891.48 up by 154.94 points and Nifty is at 4,232.40 up by 21.50 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 49.67 points at 4,723.54 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 128.30 points to 5,470.83.

Federal bank is trading lower by 6.88% at Rs232. The Bank has posted a net profit of Rs 1141.70 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 1028.60 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008.

Total Income has increased from Rs 8417.90 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 10162.80 million for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. The Bank has posted a net profit of Rs 5004.90 million for the year ended March 31, 2009 as compared to Rs 3680.50 million for the year ended March 31, 2008.

Total Income has increased from Rs 29101.60 million for the year ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 38311.50 million for the year ended March 31, 2009.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading higher as the FTSE 100 and DAX index are trading up by (0.68%) and (0.86%) respectively.

Market Recovers Again Trading With Marginal Gains - May 22, 2009

The Indian stock market is trading with marginal gains due to selective buying by the investors from the capital goods as well as health care and bankex stocks. The market is swinging in the positive and negative territory since the initial bell as the profit booking takes a lead at the higher level. The Indian benchmark indices are struggling to maintain the momentum as the volatility grips the market.

The investors are taking calculated steps to book their positions tracking the weak Asian markets and broke down of the cabinet seat sharing talks between the Congress and DMK party. The bank of Japan today acknowledged that there are signs of improvement in the economy for the first time in almost three years.

More the unfavoring cues from the US markets also hurting the investors sentiments. The worse-than-expected jobless claims in US reiterated the fact that economic conditions of US is still worsening. Initial claims for the week ended May 16 inclined by 631,000 to pile up the continuing claims climbed to a new record of 6.66 million.

The Fed had yesterday pointed out the economic worry of US and sooner than later Standard & Poor has down graded the UK economy by lowering the rating of the government’s bonds on deep concerns of the net deficit which is expected to reach 100% of the GDP.

On the sectoral front, buying is seen from the Capital Goods as well as Health Care and Bankex index, which are trading with gains of more than 1% each. While the Auto, and Consumer Durables are trading with losses of more than 1% each.

The BSE Metal index is trading with deep cut of 159.10 points or 1.63% at 9,599.42. Losers from this pack are Sterlite Industries trading down by 3.96% at Rs. 509.90 along with Sesa Goa Ltd by 3.03% at Rs. 156.70, Nalco by 2.47% at Rs. 354, Hindalco Inds by 1.96% at Rs. 77.35 and SAIL by 1.27% at Rs. 155.80.

Markets Slipped On Or After Existence Towering - May 21, 2009

The markets slipped off from the day’s high and are now trading around the day’s lows as selling pressure emerged across the frontline as well as among the second line stocks. The Mid Cap and the Small Cap stocks also given up their early gains as the BSE Mid Cap is now trading marginally lower while the BSE Small Cap is now trading with a gain of more than 2%. The significant selling pressure witnessed among the Capital Goods, Auto, Banking and IT stocks.

Tata Motor is trading down by 2.45% at Rs355. The company raised Rs. 4200 crores ($ 840 million) through issue of Secured Non-Convertible Rupee Debentures. The issue opened for bids today at 10 am and dosed at 5 pm.

The funds raised will be used for part repayment of the $3 billion bridge facility taken for acquiring Jaguar Land Rover. Tata Motors had earlier prepaid $1.11 billion.

Aurobindo Pharma is trading up by 6.11% at Rs346.25. The company announced that it has further expanded its partnership with Pfizer Inc, a global leader in Pharmaceuticals by executing licensing and supply agreements for several Solid Dosage and Sterile products for a number of emerging market countries.

Under the terms of the agreement, Pfizer has acquired rights to 55 solid oral dose products and 5 sterile injectable products for several countries throughout Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Middle East. These products fall under a broad range of some important therapeutic segments such as antiinfectives, cardiovascular (CVS) and central nervous system disorders (CNS).

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading lower as the FTSE 100 and DAX index are trading down by (2.32%) and (1.74%) respectively.

The domestic market tumbles as the investors books profit. The investors are also keeping a close eye on the portfolio allocation in the new government, which is to be watched, who gets what portfolio. Also the rising of inflation to 0.61% this week as against 0.48% last week put some pressures. After a cautious start tracking the weakness in the global markets, the domestic market recovers from the fall as the investors shows some buying strength.

The victory of the Congress led UPA government in the recent elections raised the hopes of new policy reforms to give a boost to the economy, led the investors to book further positions.

India''s inflation hovers near the three decade low as its wholesale price index shot up 0.61 percent in the 12 months to May 9, 2009 as against previous week''s annual rise of 0.48 percent, government data showed on Thursday.

The annual inflation rate was 8.57 percent during the corresponding week of the previous year. According to data released by the commerce and industry ministry showed that the index for primary articles rose 0.5 per cent during the week and that for manufactured products was up 0.1 per cent, while the index for fuels remained unchanged at 323.7.

Meanwhile, the inflation figure for week-ended March 14 has been revised to 0.71 per cent as against 0.27 per cent (provisional).

On the sectoral front, heavy buying is seen from the PSU as well as Realty and Consumer Durables index, which are trading with handsome gains of more than 4%, 2% and 1% respectively. While the Auto, FMCG and Capital Goods index are trading with losses of more than 1%, 1% and 2% respectively.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,662 stocks traded so far, 2,289 shares advanced while 325 shares declined. Nearly 48 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Sensex is trading lower by 120.93 points at 13,939.73 and NSE Nifty is trading flat at 4,278.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading up by 108.20 points at 4,781.97 and Small cap is trading higher by 286.41 points at 5,494.59.

The BSE PSU index is trading with gains of 363.50 points or 4.89% at 7,790.70. Leading the rally from the gainers pack are MMTC trading higher by 20% at Rs. 28,352.75 along with HPCL by 15.19% at Rs. 325, Bank of Maha by 12.57% at Rs. 37.60, Dena Bank by 10.74% at Rs. 53.10 and Chennai Petro by 10.84% at Rs. 168.20.

The BSE Realty index is trading up by 66.44 points or 1.98% at 3,427.87. Stocks trading in green are Orbitco trading up by 9.99% at Rs156.90 followed by Sobha Dev by 9.98% to Rs. 186.85, Parsvnath by 9.98% at Rs82.65, Omaxe by 9.97% to Rs. 93.20, Mahindralife by 8.65% at Rs298.45, Ansal Infra by 5.26% at Rs56, Anant Raj Inds by 4.95% at Rs98.60 and HDIL by 2.40% at Rs304.50.

AREVA T&D India is trading up by 0.15% at Rs330.30. The company has received a prestigious order for 400 kV Substation at Kharagpur (Wast Bengal), from West Bengal State Electricity Transmission Company (WBSETCL).

The order is on a turnkey basis and includes major T&D equipments such as Large Power Transformers, 400/220/132 kV Breakers, Automation System with Control & Relay Panels and Instrument Transformers (CT/CVT/Wave Traps), AREVA T&D shall undertake Design & Engineering, Supply, Erection and Commissioning, including Civil Works for this order.

Market Follows Global Trend: Trading In Red - May 21, 2009

After a subdued start the key benchmark indices are now trading in negative with weak global cues triggering selling in blue chip stocks. Besides, the sentiments across the Asian markets were also bleak, after an announcement made by U.S. Federal Reserve that economic recovery will take longer time in U.S. On a stock specific news, Tata motors is trading up by nearly 2% as country’s largest automaker Tata Motors has raised Rs 4,200 crore through the issue of secured non-convertible debentures (NCD) in the local market.

During the last hours'' trading session, buying interest is seen across Realty and Consumer Durable (CD) stocks whereas selling pressure has emerged across Banking, Capital Goods (CG) and Auto counters.

Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty, CD and PSU stocks surged by 3.14%, 3.13% and 2.78% respectively, while the BSE Bankex, CG and Auto declined by 2.28%, 1.98% and 1.77% respectively.

Overall the market breadth is positive as 1990 stocks are trading in green while 307 stocks are in red.

The BSE Sensex is down by 135.96 points at 13,924.69 while NSE Nifty declined by 8.14 points at 4,262.15. Besides, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading higher by 117.15 points and 276.53 points at 4,790.92 and 5,484.72 respectively.

Markets Are Still Trading Under Pressure - May 20, 2009

The markets are still trading under pressure as sell off continued among the frontline indices. However, the broader markets indices continued their upward rally. The Consumer Durables index today outperformed the benchmark index today as it is now trading with a gain of more than 8.5%.

The huge selling is seen among the Banking and Oil & Gas stocks. However, the buying interest continued among the Metal, Auto, Pharma and Capital Goods stocks.

The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 14,100 mark and the NSE Nifty below the 4,300 mark. The BSE Mid Cap is now trading with a gain of more than 5.5% and the BSE Small Cap index with a gain of more than 8%.

The overall market breadth is positive as 2275 stocks are advancing while 349 stocks are declining in BSE.

Tata Motors reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (20.98%) at Rs. 369.60 while Bharti Airtel reported the top loser trading down by (6.96%) at Rs. 851.

BSE Sensex is at 14,069.75 down by 232.28 points and Nifty is at 4,271.20 down by 47.25 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is higher by 255.21 points at 4,663.03 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 388.26 points to 5,172.40.

The Metal index is trading with decent gains of 562.19 points or 5.97% at 9,978.11. Pushing it are Tata Steel trading with decent gains of 12.11% at Rs369 followed by Ispat Inds by 10.60% at Rs18.47, Welspun Guj by 7.67% at Rs146, JSW Steel by 7.29% at Rs513.50, Jindal Steel by 6.12% at Rs2136.25, NMDC by 6.16% at Rs276.40, Jindal Saw by 5.82% at Rs370.90 and Hindalco Inds by 5.48% at Rs81.80.

Gainers from the Auto index are Tata Motors trading up by 17.59% at Rs359.25 along with Escorts Ltd by 9.80% at Rs51, M&M by 6.65% at Rs669.05, Bosch by 6.31% at Rs3200, Exide inds by 6.40% at Rs64, Maruti Suzuki by 5.22% at Rs1051.10, Cummins by 4.94% at Rs270 and Ashok Leyland by 3.60% at Rs30.25.

The domestic market is trading on the backfoot as the investors are taking calculated steps to book further positions. Soon after the weak opening, the benchmark indices make a smart turn around on the back of reports that the government departments has sketch out a some proposals populate an ambitious reform agenda for the first 100 days of the government.

The BSE Consumer Durables index is trading with gains of 180.20 points or 7.86% at 2,474.13. Leading the rally from the gainers pack are Videocon Inds trading higher by 13.23% at Rs. 145.95 along with Rajesh Exports by 7.79% at Rs. 33.90, Titan Inds by 6.16% at Rs. 1056.10, Blue Star by 6.10% at Rs. 265.10 and Gitanjali GE by 5.97% at Rs. 86.05.

The BSE Metal index is up by 491.35 points or 5.22% at 9,907.27. Stocks trading in green are Tata Steel trading up by 10.21% at Rs362.75 followed by Ispat Inds by 8.86% to Rs. 18.18, NMDC by 5.61% to Rs. 274.95, Jindal Saw by 5.56% to Rs370, Hindalco Inds by 5.54% to Rs. 81.85, Welspun Guj Stalh by 5.01% to Rs. 142.40.

Piramal Life Sciences Ltd is trading up by 4.96% at Rs60.35. The company has commenced Phase I trial of a new experimental drug molecule P2202 for diabetes-metabolic syndrome in Canada, P2202 is the second compound from Eli Lilly & Co. (USA) and is part of the collaborative agreement between the two companies and is being developed for diabetes-metabolic syndrome.

Four Soft Ltd is trading higher by 3.17% at Rs20.20. The company has announced that Companys web based software solution 4S eCustoms SAGITTA has been certified by the Netherlands Customs Authorities for Sagitta Import and Export compliance. Sagitta is an automated declaration platform for handling custom affairs for Import and Export shipments in the Netherlands.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) is trading up by 1.90% at Rs 1371.80. L&T and US-based GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for co-operation on BWR and ABWR nuclear power plants.

L&T has been playing a leading role in equipment manufacture, construction and project management for Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors in India's domestic program. This MoU with GEH is a major step forward for L&T in the manufacture and construction of Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) components & systems.

L&T and GEH hope to utilize indigenous capabilities for the complete construction of nuclear power plants including supply of reactor equipment and systems, valves, electrical & instrumentation products for ABWR plants to be set up in India.

Market Turned Volatile: Consumer Durable Gains - May 20, 2009

After a negative opening, the major Indian bourses turned volatile amid mixed cues from the global market. The UPA government is on the verge to form a new cabinet today and the swearing will be done on May 22nd. On a stock specific news, Essar Oil is trading up by over 14% after an announcement that it will spend USD 70 mn in the current fiscal for its Ratna gas exploration block off Mumbai and Raniganj coal bed methane block in West Bengal.

During the last hours'' trading session, buying interest seen across Consumer Durable (CD), Metal and Auto stocks whereas Selling pressure has emerged across Banking counters. Among the BSE sectoral indices, CD, Metal and Auto stocks surged by 4.66%, 3.87% and 3.01% respectively, while the BSE Bankex declined by 0.57% respectively.
