Global Sentiment Lifts Stocks; Sensex Up 280 pts

MUMBAI: The market opened higher Wednesday tracking advances in stocks overseas after investment guru Warren Buffet offered to reinsure $800 million of municipal bonds from troubled insurers. At 10 am, the Bombay Stock Exchange's Sensex was up 280 points or 1.68 per cent at 16,887.76.

National Stock Exchange's Nifty was up 58 points or 1.2 per cent at 4896.20. "I don't think there is much down side left. Nifty rose to a high of 5545 on February 4, making a recovery of 1100 points after hitting 4448 on January 22. Even if it moves lower, 4700 should provide the necessary support," said Vasant Joshi, technical and derivatives analyst at Religare Securities.
