The markets though managed to rover a bit from the day’s low but are still trading lower. The broader market indices also reversed their earlier losses and are trading higher in the afternoon trade. Further the positive opening of the European markets boosted the sentiments. The Metal index today outperformed the benchmark indices as it now trading with a gain of more than 1%.
Further the Pharma and Auto stocks are also attracting some buying interest today. However, IT, Power, Banking and Realty stocks are still under pressure.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 15,100 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 4,450 mark.
The overall market breadth is negative as 1238 stocks are advancing while 1318 stocks are declining in BSE.
Tata Steel reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (2.57%) at Rs. 401.15 while TCS reported the top loser trading down by (3.84%) at Rs. 480.90.
The BSE Sensex is trading down by 68.15 points at 15,122.86 and the NSE Nifty is trading lower by 17.20 points at 4,485.05.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 11.39 points to 5,246.48 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 23.61 points to 5,847.48.
The Metal index is trading with gains of 114.21 points or 1% at 11,483.85. Gainers from this pack are Jindal Steel trading up by 4.71% at Rs. 2,792.20 along with Ispat Industries by 4.55% at Rs. 21.85 along with Jindal Saw by 3.34% at Rs. 399.70, Tata Steel by 3.12% at Rs. 403.30, SAIL by 1.84% at Rs. 171.70, JSW Steel by 1.37% at Rs. 611.20 and Hind Zinc by 0.41% at Rs. 674.
The IT index is trading lower by 58.25 points or 1.55% at 3,701.36. Losers from this pack are TCS trading lower by 4.07% at Rs. 479.75 followed by Patni Computers by 2.34% at Rs. 285.50, Mosear Baer by 2.26% at Rs. 77.70, Infosys by 1.61% at Rs. 1941, Oracle Finance by 1.42% at Rs. 1319 and HCL Tech by 1.33% at Rs. 230.80.
The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs. 82.35 with a total traded quantity of 69224230 shares followed by Ispat Inds trading at Rs. 21.95 with a total traded quantity of 48480979 shares.
Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) is trading lower by 2.36% at Rs. 174. The bank has posted a net profit of Rs 2574.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 as compared to Rs 2205.20 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2008.
Total Income has increased from Rs 21592.10 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2008 to Rs 27961.00 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2009.
On the global markets front, the European markets are now trading higher as the FTSE 100, DAX and CAC index are trading up by (0.61%), (0.71%) and (0.64%) respectively.
