The markets after a slide down into the negative territory have now firmed up and are moving sideways. The selling pressure continued among the IT, Capital Goods, Pharma and Auto stocks. The Metal index today outperformed the benchmark indices as it now trading with a gain of more than 1.8%. Further the negative opening of the European markets also turned down the sentiments. However the broader market indices are trading flat in the afternoon trade.
The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 15,000 mark and the NSE Nifty below the 4,450 mark.
The overall market breadth is negative as 1189 stocks are advancing while 1359 stocks are declining in BSE.
ONGC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (4.37%) at Rs. 1,090.50 while Grasim Industries reported the top loser trading down by (3.34%) at Rs. 2,697.05.
The BSE Sensex is trading down by 119.51 points at 14,942.98 and the NSE Nifty is trading lower by 44.75 points at 4,424.35.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 3.43 points to 5,221.78 while the BSE Small Cap grew by 14.37 points to 5,852.19.
The IT index is trading with cut of 61.99 points or 1.68% at 3,632.04. Losers from this pack are HCL Tech trading lower by 4.95% at Rs. 217 followed by Rolta India by 4.95% at Rs. 130.70, Tech Mahindra by 3.86% at Rs. 780, Patni Computers by 2.73% at Rs. 274.80, NIIT by 1.75% at Rs. 58.80, Wipro by 1.70% at Rs. 450.15.
The Capital Goods index is trading lower by 190.98 points or 1.54% at 12,182.08. Scrips trading in negative territory are Thermax Limited trading down by 5.51% at Rs. 428.95 along with Bharat Electricals by 4.46% at Rs. 1442, ABB by 3.49% at Rs. 711.25, Elecon Eng by 2.41% at Rs. 79, BEML by 2.17% at Rs. 1036.80, Praj Inds by 1.92% at Rs. 84.40, Kalpataru Power by 1.87% at Rs. 730, Lakshmi Machines by 1.42% at Rs. 879.
The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs. 81.20 with a total traded quantity of 66902964 shares followed by Suzlon Energy trading at Rs. 91.15 with a total traded quantity of 57979323 shares.
Reliance Communication is trading lower by 0.60% at Rs. 266.05. Etisalat DB and Reliance Communications, in a significant move today announced a long-term passive infrastructure sharing agreement, which will accelerate Etisalat DB Telecom''s forthcoming rollout of telecom services in India.
Under the terms of the agreements, Etisalat DB and its subsidiary would outsource their Telecom infrastructure requirements for the 15-telecom circles, encompassing end-to-end tower and transmission infrastructure to Reliance Infratel Limited and Reliance Communications Limited, respectively.
Canara Bank is trading down by 1.54% at Rs. 264.80. The bank posted a net profit of Rs 5553.30 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2009 as compared to Rs 1226.80 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2008.
Total Income has increased from Rs 40990.50 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2008 to Rs 50319.50 million for the quarter ended June 30, 2009.
On the global markets front, the European markets are now trading lower as the FTSE 100, DAX and CAC index are trading down by (0.69%), (0.83%) and (0.76%) respectively.
