Markets Off Low’s- March 20, 2009

The markets gained grounds from the lows as smart buying witnessed among the Metal, FMCG and Consumer Durables stocks. However, selling pressure continued among the Realty, Capital Goods, Banking, Pharma and Auto stocks. The broader markets are however trading flat. The European Markets also opened weak.

The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 9,000 mark while the NSE Nifty is trading above the 2,800 mark.

The overall market breadth is negative as 1167 stocks are advancing while 1195 stocks are declining in BSE.

Hindalco Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (5.11%) at Rs. 47.35.

However, Tata Motors reported the top loser down by (3.96%) at Rs. 164.80.

At 2.35PM BSE Sensex is at 8,971.63 down by 30.12 points while Nifty is at 2,808 up by 0.85 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is lower by 9.75 points at 2,764.37 while the BSE Small Cap increased by 8.99 points to 3,106.52.

The Metal index is trading with gains of 78.73 points or 1.52% at 5,255.90. Gainers from this pack are Gujarat NRE Coke trading up by 9.33% at Rs20.50 along with Jai Corp by 6.42% at Rs82.05, Hindalco Inds by 5.11% at Rs47.35, Sesa Goa by 3.17% at Rs87.80, Ispat Inds by 3.06% at Rs10.11, JSW Steel by 2.79% at Rs188, SAIL by 2.62% at Rs88.05, Tata Steel by 1.85% at Rs176.40 and Sterlite Inds by 1.64% at Rs319.45

The Realty index is trading with losses of 72.86 points or 4.49% at 1,550.41. Losers from this pack are Akruti City trading with deep cut of 26.99% at Rs1626.90 along with Anant Raj Inds by 3.86% at Rs39.80, Parsvnath by 1.96% at Rs35.10, HDIL by 1.86% at Rs73.90, Indiabull Real by 1.05% at Rs94.40, Unitech by 1.11% at Rs26.70 and Ansal Infra by 0.61% at Rs24.30.

The most active shares on NSE are Satyam Comp trading at Rs.44.90 with a total traded quantity of 13896807 shares followed by FSL trading at Rs.15.20 with a total traded quantity of 12554184 shares.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading lower as FTSE 100 and DAX index are trading down by (0.50%) and (0.60%) respectively.
