Market Extending Losses- Feb 17, 2009

Continuing gap down opening, the benchmark indices are extending losses on account of weak Asian markets. Besides, the interim budget announcement by acting Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukharjee, has not provided much relief to investors, as they were on hope of good announcements for real estate and auto sectors. Consequently, the market is expected to be in a grip of bear until any good news comes from the global markets or Indian Govt takes any major steps to bring back the domestic economy on track. In addition, the selling pressure has emerged across the boards as most of the sectoral indices are trading into red territory. Among the major losers, BSE Realty and BSE Metal have plunged by 4.75% and 3.13% respectively. Overall the market breadth is negative as 1269 stocks are trading in red while 458 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 193.17 points at 9,112.27 whereas NSE Nifty declined by 2,790.5 points at 2,790.5. The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading lower by 54.17 points and 56.26 points at 2,870.58 and 3,267.87 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are DLF Ltd down by (6.44%) to Rs. 145.9, along with Mahindra & Mahindra by (4.63%) to Rs. 299.9, Tata Steel by (3.88%) at Rs. 176.9, ICICI Bank by (3.63%) at Rs. 394.35, Jaiprakash Assoc by (3.59%) at Rs. 67.05 and Reliance Infra by (3.40%) at Rs. 515.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are DLF Ltd by (7.21%) at Rs.145.35 along with Zee Entertainment by (6.10%) at Rs. 110.9, Unitech Ltd by (5.46%) at Rs. 28.55, Suzlon Energy by (5.36%) at Rs. 42.35 and Mahindra & Mahindra by (4.84%) at Rs. 298.75.

BSE Realty is trading lower by (4.75%) or 72.21 points at 1,447.16. The top losers in the index are DLF Ltd declined by (6.44%) to Rs. 145.9 along with Unitech Ltd by (6.30%) to Rs. 28.25, Orbit Co by (6.04%) to Rs. 48.20, Ansal Infra by (5.25%) to Rs. 26.15 followed by Penland Ltd by (5.21%) at Rs. 20.

BSE Metal is trading lower by (3.13%) or 157.24 points at 4,873.78. The major losers are Jindal Steel trading down by (4.01%) at Rs. 974.05, along with Tata Steel by (3.88%) at Rs. 176.60, Hindalco Ltd by (3.72%) at Rs.42.65, Welsp Guj by (3.59%) at Rs. 68.45, followed by JSW SL by (3.32%) to Rs. 207.90.
