Markets Are Facing A Lot Of Volatility - Jan 19, 2009

The markets are facing a lot of volatility and are swinging in between the positive and negative territory. The significant buying is seen among the Metal, Oil & Gas, Consumer Durable and Capital Goods stocks. However, the Realty, IT, Banking and Auto stocks are out of favor today. The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 9300 mark and the NSE Nifty near the 2850 mark. The BSE Mid Cap And the Small Cap stocks also joined the rally today.

Jai Prakash Associate posted a 6% rise in net profit in the Oct-Dec period. During the quarter, the profit of the company rose to Rs. 165.51 crore from Rs 156 crore in the same quarter previous year.
Net sales for the quarter jumped 53.40% to Rs. 1,380.63 crore, while total income for the quarter grew by 44.42% to Rs 1447.12 crore.

On the global markets front, the Asian markets are trading mostly higher barring the Hang Seng index that is rading lower by (0.46%). However, Shanghai Composite, Nikkei, Straits Times and Seoul Composite index are trading higher by (1.45%), (0.32%), (0.31%) and (1.36%) respectively.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1199 stocks are advancing while 865 stocks are declining and the 98 stocks remain unchanged on BSE.

Sterlite Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack as it was trading higher by (4.98%) at Rs. 273.15 while Mahindra & Mahindra the top loser down by (3.35%) at Rs.313.40.

The BSE Mid cap is higher by 14.35 points at 3,041.18 and the BSE small Cap advanced by 34.57 points to trade at 3,447.34.

At 12.35 pm, BSE Sensex was at 9,323.72 up by 0.13 points while the NSE Nifty was at 2,840.30 up by 11.85 points.

BSE Auto declined by 7.25 points to 2,544.77. Leading to its fall are Mahindra & Mahindra (3.53%), Tata Motors (2.02%), Maruti Suzuki (1.02%) and Hero Honda (0.55%).

BSE IT index decreased by 32.23 points to trade at 2,152.75 as TCS (2.20%), Wipro (2.29%), Oracle Fin (2.13%), Infosys Technologies (2.03%) and Patni Computer (0.38%) are trading in negative.

BSE Metal index surged by 131.97 points to 5,127.40 as Sterlite Industries (5.05%), SAIL (3.67%), Sesa Goa (2.05%), Tata Steel (1.93%), Nalco (1.67%), Jindal Steel (1.81%) and Hindalco Industries (1.50%) are trading in green.

BSE Bankex index is trading lower by 31.78 points at 5,006.06. Losers are ICICI Bank (2.21%), SBI (1.57%), Kotak Bank (1.57%), AXIS Bank (1.43%) and Indus Ind Bank (0.92%).

BSE Oil & Gas index is trading 83.26 points higher at 6,016.95 as Gail India (2.87%), RPL (2.26%), HPCL (1.78%), Cairn India (1.29%), ONGC (1.26%) and Reliance Industries (1.25%) are trading in positive.

BSE Capital goods index advanced by 93.33 points to 6,609.59. The main gainers are Alstrom Project (5.17%), BEML (3.14%), AIA Engineering (2.26%), Praj Industries (2.10%), Reliance Industrial Infra (0.70%) and Punj Lloyd (0.44%).

BSE Power index is trading 18.57 points higher at 1,786. The main gainers are Suzlon Energy (5.44%), Power Grid (2.85%), GVK Power (2.05%), Torent Power (1.85%) and Reliance Power (1.78%).

BSE Realty index slipped by 19.20 points to 1,704.56. The major losers are Unitech (6.64%), India Bull Real (3.72%), DLF (1.90%) and Omaxe Ltd. (1.24%).
