The markets made a smart recovery from the fall on selective buying across the Oil and gas, Bankex and Realty baskets. After a firm start, the markets tumbled in the mid session as the investors took calculative steps to book their positions due to o political uncertainty ahead of state elections and uncertainty about a US Treasury plan to forgo buying bad mortgage-related investments. From the sectoral front, all the indices are trading in negative but Capital Goods and Auto are th worst hit as they are trading with a cut of more than 3% each.
On the global market front, the European Markets are trading higher as both the FTSE 100 and Dax Index are up by 3.07% and 3.38% respectively.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 10,400 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 2,790 mark.
The overall market breadth is weak as 1499 stocks are declining while 882 stocks are advancing in BSE.
ACC Ltd reported the top loser from the BSE Sensex pack. It is trading lower by (7.87%) at Rs.423.55 while Reliance Communication as the top gainer up by (3.94%) at Rs.224.20.
At 2.35 PM BSE Sensex is trading flat at 9,536.33 and Nifty is trading flat at 2,848.90.
The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading down by 48.17 points (1.47%) and 41.91 points (1.10%) at 3,233.10 and 3,771.47 respectively.
The BSE Auto index is trading with cut of 3.98% or 101.16 points at 2,441.03. Pulling it are Tata Motors trading lower by 7.45% at Rs 138.50 along with Amtek auto by 6.79% at Rs59, M&M by 5.96% at Rs321.80, Bosch by 4.34% at Rs3131, Hero Honda by 4.17% at Rs723, Maruti Suzuki by 3.91% at Rs538, Exide Inds by 3.85% at Rs46.15, Bajaj Auto by 2.58% at Rs370 and Apollo tyres by 2.38% at Rs 24.60.
The Capital Goods index is down by 3.71% or 269.41 points at 6,988.12. Losers are Everest Kant trading lower by 9.69% at Rs 173.35 in line with Crompton Greaves by 7.19% at Rs144, Usha Martin by 4.98% at Rs28.65, AIA Engineering by 4.74% at Rs157.65, Bhel by 3.97% at Rs1283.90, Elecon Eng by 3.85% at Rs45 and L&T by 3.33% at Rs800.
The most active shares on NSE are Reliance Industries trading at Rs.1,169.15 with a total traded quantity of 8547874 shares followed by ICICI Bank trading at Rs.397.20 with a total traded quantity of 10473000 shares.
