The markets today open sharply lower after a few days of upward rally. The selling pressure witnessed among the selective scrips in the early trade mainly led by the Realty, Metal, IT, Oil & Gas and Pharma stocks. However, the FMCG index managed to trade marginally higher in the early trade. The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap are also trading lower in the opening trade.
The Asian markets are trading mixed as Nikkei and Hang Seng index are trading higher by 4.66% and 0.22% while Straight Times index is trading lower by 1.44%.
The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 10,200 mark and the NSE Nifty is hovering around the 3,000 mark.
It was a relatively a quite day for the US stock market on Monday and marginally lower as investors remain cautious ahead of the US presidential election. Further the dismal automobile monthly sales figures and a contraction in the U.S. manufacturing activity in October at the fastest pace in 26 years also added to the sentiments. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped marginally by 5.18 points to close at 9,319.83. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index increased by 5.38 points to close at 1,726.33 and the S&P 500 (SPX) slipped 2.45 points to close at 966.30.
The overall market breadth is negative as 578 stocks are advancing whereas 924 stocks are declining on BSE.
ONGC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (3.35%) at Rs.734.50 followed by Tata Motors down by (6.23%) at Rs.179.
At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 182.21 points at 10,155.47 and the Nifty was down by 43.80 points to 3,000.05.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 29.32 points to 3,326.21 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 15.90 points to 3,911.20.
BSE Realty index is trading lower by 72.59 points or (3.39%) to trade at 2,069.69. The top losers are India Bull Real decreased by (4.72%) to Rs.121, DLF down by (4.64%) to Rs.241.30, Penland declined by (3.83%) to Rs.22.60 followed by Parsavnath fell by (2.98%) to Rs.43.90.
BSE Metal index slipped by 152.61 points to trade at 5,469.76. The major losers are Sterlite Industries declined by (5.39%) to Rs.279.05, Hindalco Industries down by (4.41%) to Rs.60.70, Jindal Saw decreased by (4.06%) to Rs.386 followed by Jindal Steel fell by (3.50%) to Rs.780.
Tata Steel is trading lower by (2.68%) at Rs. 219.55. The company is planning to set up a new blast furnace at its Jamshedpur works unit as part of the Rs 14,000 crore brownfield expansion in order to augment its production capacity to 10 million tonne (MT) in over two years.
