The markets today open lower in line with the Asian markets but suddenly make sharp u turn from the opening low’s as significant buying witnessed among the selective scrips. The Power, Capital Goods, Consumer Durables, Metal and Oil & Gas stocks are in focus in the opening trade. However, the Realty and Pharma stocks are trading lower in the early trade. The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap are also trading higher and in line with the benchmark index.
The BSE Sensex is now hovering near the 9,000 mark and the NSE Nifty is trading above the 2,700 mark.
The Asian markets are also trading mostly lower with an exception of KLSE Composite index that is trading higher by (0.81%). Shanghai Composite, Hang Seng and Straits Times index are trading lower by (1.61%), (1.19%) and (2.02%) respectively.
The US stock market on Friday, managed to end higher after a sharp volatile session backed by the report that President elect Barack Obama would nominate New York Federal Reserve President Timothy Geithner as Treasury secretary. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) surged by 494.13 points to close at 8,046.42. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index increased by 68.23 points to close at 1,384.35 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew by 47.59 points to close at 800.03.
The overall market breadth is positive as 671 stocks are advancing whereas 512 stocks are declining on BSE.
Hindalco Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (2.02%) at Rs. 52.95 while Sterlite Industries reported the top loser down by (2.45%) to Rs. 213.40.
At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 102.60 points at 9,017.81 and the Nifty was up by 30.80 points to 2,724.75.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 23.92 points to 2,940.58 and the BSE Small Cap advanced by 26.10 points to 3,416.86.
BSE Realty index is trading lower by 44.98 points or (2.73%) to trade at 1,600.44. The top losers are DLF decreased by (3.13%) to Rs.192, Unitech down by (2.67%) to Rs.31, Mahindralife declined by (2.13%) to Rs.156 followed by Omaxe Ltd. fell by (1.45%) to Rs. 47.50.
BSE IT index is trading lower by 51.84 points or (2.11%) to trade at 2,405.71. The major losers are Mphasis declined by (1.73%) to Rs. 153, Wipro down by (1.22%) to Rs.227, HCL Technologies decreased by (1.01%) to Rs.142.15 followed by Infosys Technologies fell by (0.67%) to Rs.1,176.80.
