The markets today open in red following weak global cues. The financial woes once again knocked the US markets. The BSE Sensex has slipped the 14800 mark in the opening trade. The selling pressure is seen among the Metal, Banking, Oil & Gas, Power and Auto and Capital Goods stocks. However, the Consumer Durables, IT and Realty stocks are trading marginally higher. The broader markets however are trading flat in the early trade.
The overall market breadth is negative as 724 stocks are advancing whereas 879 stocks are declining on BSE.
Ranbaxy Laboratories reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (1.22%) at Rs.462 while Sterlite Industries the top loser down by (5.87%) at Rs.541.90.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 120.90 points at 14,779.86 and the Nifty was down by 33.60 points to 4,435.10.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 6.68 points to 5,771.52 while the BSE Small Cap advanced by 9.16 points to 6,973.77.
BSE Bank index dropped by 102.64 points or (1.39%) to trade at 7,265.69. The major losers are ICICI Bank, PNB, HDFC Bank and AXIS Bank fell by (2.29%), (2.28%), (1.47%) and (0.93%) to Rs.696.50, Rs.487.50, Rs.1,274.10 and Rs.703.10 respectively.
BSE Metal index slipped by 205.14 points or (1.74%) to trade at 11,596.04. The top losers are Sterlite Industries decreased by (5.87%) to Rs.541.90, Gujarat NRE down by (2.37%) to Rs.84.40, SAIL declined by (2.27%) to Rs.146.50 followed by Jindal Steel fell by (1.76%) to Rs.1,768.50.
BHEL is trading lower by (0.49%) at Rs.1,742.10. The company on Tuesday announced that it had won a contract for setting up a combined cycle power plant (CCPP) in Tripura. The value of the contract is around Rs.2,200crores. This will involve supply and commissioning of two fuel-efficient advanced-class Frame 9FA gas turbines
