Markets Continues To Trade In Negative - Sep 10, 2008

Indian Markets continues to trade in the negative after a weak opening on unfavorable global cues. Though markets struggled to recover but were not able to sustain the momentum and slipped further on sustained selling pressure. Metal, Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Bank stocks led the declines, while IT stocks marginally advanced. Among the Sensex pack, 10 stocks are trading in green, while 20 are in red.

At 1.30PM, the BSE Sensex is trading lower by 152.88 points at 14,747.88 and NSE Nifty is down by 40.64 points at 4,428.05.

The BSE Mid Cap and Small cap are trading lower by 44.97 points and 17.20 points at 5,733.22 and 6,947.41 respectively.

Losers from the BSE are Sterlite In trading down by (10.07%) at Rs517.70 in line with Tata Steel by (4.43%) at Rs539.40, Tata Power by (2.81%) at Rs1,056.00, ICICI Bank Ltd by (2.22%) at Rs697.00, Reliance Infra by (2.14%) at Rs1,048.00, HDFC Bank Ltd by (2.13%) at Rs1,265.55, Reliance by (2.09%) at Rs2,098.05 and Maruti Suzuki (1.44%) at Rs698.00.

The BSE Metal index is trading lower by 465.28 points at Rs11,335.90 as Sterlite In is trading down by (10.20%) at Rs516.95 along with Gujarat NRE C (5.44%) at Rs81.75, Steel Authority (5.44%) at Rs141.75, Jindal Steel by (5.35%) at Rs1,703.90 and JSW SL (4.64%) at Rs682.00.

The BSE Oil & Gas index is down by 109.88 points at Rs9,773.28. Scrips trading lower are IOC Ltd (2.89%) at Rs421.50 followed by Reliance by (2.09%) at Rs2,098.05, BPCL (1.91%) at Rs346.50, Essar Oil Ltd (1.37%) at Rs197.55 and Aban Offshore by (1.01%) at Rs2,362.00.

From the telecommunication sector, Idea Cellular is trading up by (2.17%) at Rs87.25 along with Reliance Com Ltd tradign higher by (0.16%) at Rs406.00. However, Bharti Airtel is trading down by (0.88%) at Rs829.55 and Tata Communications by (0.11%) at Rs446.00.

In auto sector Hero Honda Motors is up by (1.62%) at Rs842.45 while Maruti Suzuki is lower by (1.62%) at Rs696.55 followed by M&M Ltd down by (0.53%) at Rs579.25 and Tata Motors by (0.37%) at Rs419.00.

From cement sector ACC Ltd is trading higher by (1.98%) at Rs609.75, followed by Grasim Indus up by (0.72%) at Rs2,042.80 and Ambuja Cement by (0.36%) at Rs83.95
