The markets today open sharply lower after a strong rally on Tuesday as profit booking emerged in the Realty, Banking, Power and Metal stocks. However, the IT stocks are trading marginally higher. The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 14800 mark in the early trade. The BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap are also trading lower in the opening trade.
The overall market breadth is negative as 690 stocks are advancing whereas 1024 stocks are declining on BSE.
Satyam Computer reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (0.62%) at Rs.436 while Sterlite Industries reported the top loser down by (4.02%) at Rs.611.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 259.26 points at 14,790.60 and the Nifty was down by 78.25 points to 4,425.75.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 40.43 points to 5,796.58 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 28.83 points to 6,953.56.
BSE Bank index slipped by 137.35 points to trade at 7,309.17. The major losers are AXIS Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Bank and ICICI Bank fell by (3.38%), (3.33%), (2.61%) and (2.04%) to Rs.734, Rs.1,296.75, Rs.633 and Rs.698.75 respectively.
BSE Realty index dropped by 152.68 points to trade at 5,214.59. The top losers are India Bull Real decreased by (7.58%) to Rs.297.90, HDIL down by (4.66%) to Rs.310.65, DLF declined by (3.16%) to Rs.513.10 followed by Omaxe Ltd. fell by (2.73%) to Rs.126.50.
Larsen & Toubro is trading lower by (1.89%) at Rs.2,637. The company is planning to foray into new construction segments including solar power and underground structure. The company has plans to build ultra mega power plants in the next five years.
