The markets today opens higher but could not able to sustain its momentum and turned choppy. The buying support is seen among the selective scrips mainly led by the Metal, Consumer Durables, Power and FMCG stocks. However, the Auto, IT and Banking stocks are trading lower in the opening trade.
The BSE Sensex is trading above the 14000 level and the NSE Nifty above the 4200 mark.
The overall market breadth is positive as 1032 stocks are advancing whereas 637 stocks are declining on BSE.
Tata Steel reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (1.51%) at Rs.486.85 while ONGC reported the top loser down by (1.97%) at Rs.1,051.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 44.75 points at 14,087.07 and the Nifty was up by 10.40 points to 4,255.65.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 35.73 points to 5,264.51 and the BSE Small Cap advanced by 33.22 points to 6,249.21.
BSE Metal index advanced by 53.25 points or (0.53%) to trade at 10,086.84. The major gainers are Sesa Goa, Gujarat NRE, Jindal Saw and JSW Steel grew by (4.22%), (2.36%), (1.26%) and (0.98%) to Rs.113.70, Rs.67.25, Rs.614 and Rs.599.50 respectively.
BSE Bank index slipped by 45.30 points or (0.64%) to trade at 7,064.58. The top losers are ICICI Bank decreased by (1.29%) to Rs.620, SBI down by (0.61%) to Rs.1,555, PNB declined by (0.59%) to Rs.520.50 followed by Union Bank fell by (0.43%) to Rs.150.90.
BHEL is trading higher by (0.49%) at Rs.1,717.15. The company plans a Rs1,500 crore joint venture company for forgings and castings to gain technology. The company is also forming joint ventures with various power generating companies, to increase its capability to meet rising demand for power generation equipment and gain know-how
