The market today opens sharply lower on the back of negative cues from the global markets. The huge selling pressure witnessed across the board in the opening trade. The Realty, Bank, Oil & Gas and Consumer Durables stocks are the most hitted stocks in the opening trade. The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap stocks are also trading with a heavy gap down.
The overall market breadth is negative as 364 stocks are advancing whereas 1416 stocks are declining on BSE.
ACC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading with a gain of (1.59%) at Rs.504.10 while Reliance Infra. the top loser down by (7.68%) at Rs.718.75.
At 10.30AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 397.77 points at 13,128.22 and the Nifty was down by 108.30 points to 3,921.70.
The BSE Mid Cap decreased by 109.95 points to 5,229.86 and the BSE Small Cap slipped by 97.58 points to 6,495.43.
BSE Realty index dropped by 204.55 points to trade at 4,456.14. The top losers are Unitech decreased by (5.55%) to Rs.158.20, HDIL slipped by (5.28%) to Rs.398.45, India Bull Real declined by (4.84%) to Rs252.55 followed by Mahindra Life down by (4.18%) to Rs.426.50.
BSE Bank index slipped by 238.13 points to trade at 5,654.66. The major losers are SBI, Kotak Bank, PNB and ICICI Bank fell by (5.41%), (4.42%), (4.19%) and (4.02%) to Rs.1115.65, Rs.444.40, Rs.370.45 and Rs.579.45 respectively.
SBI is trading lower by (5.41%) at Rs.1,108.35 on the back of the news that the bank may face a bigger hit in the first quarter of FY09 on its treasury portfolio due to mark-to-market losses on bonds. SBI had received bonds aggregating Rs 10,000 crore from the government this March.
Suzlon Energy slipped by (4.06%) to Rs.186.80. The company has announced plans to buy Chinese wind energy company Honiton Energy Holdings.
