Market is trading downturn after showing instability ahead of F&O expiry and inflation number for the week ended 19th July 2008, which has to come out today evening. Domestic market opened on positive note but was not able to sustain the momentum and turned volatile. Investor’s negative attitude is affecting mainly Bank, FMCG and Auto stocks. However, Metal, Oil & Gas, Consumer Durable stocks are able to gain favor from the market. Among the Sensex pack, 10 stocks are trading in green while 20 are in red.
At 1.30PM, the BSE Sensex is trading lower by 44.80 points at 14,242.21 and NSE Nifty is down by 7.30 points at 4,603.25.
The BSE Mid Cap is trading marginally higher by 3.84 points at 5,584.85 while Small Cap is lower by 12.20 points at 6,915.40.
Lossers from the BSE are Tata Motors trading lower by (4.89%) at Rs395.95 in line with ITC Ltd by (3.57%) at Rs181.10, Maruti Suzuki by (2.61%) at Rs573.45, Grasim Industries by (2.26%) at Rs1,810.00, SBI by (1.81%) at Rs1,361.50, TCS Ltd by (1.62%) at Rs825.00 and Bharti Airtel by (1.49%) at Rs797.85.
The BSE Bank index is trading lower by 102.60 points at 6,420.02 as PNB trading down by (3.88%) at Rs448.45 along with Axis Bank by (3.80%) at Rs653.80, Kotak Bank (2.92%) at Rs529.45, OBC by (2.64%) at Rs151.25 and SBI by (1.84%) at Rs1,361.10.
The BSE Metal index is trading up by 144.33 points at 12,843.03. Scrips that are trading higher are NMDC Ltd (4.98%) at Rs329.60 followed by Tata steel by (2.53%) at Rs646.00, Hinduatan Zinc by (2.43%) at Rs602.90, Steel Authority by (1.51%) at Rs138.10 and Steel Authority by (1.05%) at Rs629.00.
From the telecommunication sector, Idea Cellular is lower by (2.54%) at Rs88.10 along with Tata Communications down by (2.16%) at Rs433.30, Bharti Airtel by (1.65%) at Rs796.50 and Reliance Com Ltd by (1.09%) at Rs497.25.
In auto sector Hero Honda Motors is trading higher by (0.43%) at Rs786.10 along with M&M Ltd up by (0.07%) at Rs513.80 while Tata Motors is down by (4.93%) at Rs395.30 and Maruti Suzuki by (2.27%) at Rs574.50.
In cement sector Ambuja Cement is trading up by (0.67%) at Rs82.55 while Grasim Indus is trading lower by (0.70%) at Rs1,836.90 followed by ACC Ltd is down by (0.52%) at Rs588.70.
ITC Ltd is trading lower by (3.57%) at Rs181.10 after reporting profit dropped unexpectedly for the first time in nine quarters. Company’s net income dropped by 4.3% to Rs7.49 billion from a year earlier after losses widened at its new personal care products and apparel businesses.
