Investors Taking Cautious Approach On Political Worries - July 21, 2008

Investors are taking cautious approach on political worries as there will be vote of confidence in parliament on Tuesday, which will decide UPA''s continuation as a government. Market opens higher backed by strong Asian markets but is not able maintain the same momentum as trading lower from earlier highs. Market is witnessing buying interest mainly due to the Bank, Pharma and FMCG stocks while selling pressure is seen in Capital Goods, Oil & Gas and IT stocks. Among the Sensex pack, 19 stocks are trading in green while 11 are in red.

At 1.30PM, the BSE Sensex is trading higher by 44.50 points at 13,679.90 and NSE Nifty is up by 10.50 points at 4,102.30.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading lower by 21.61 points at 5,217.78 along with Small Cap down by 41.60 points at 6,414.83.

Gainers from the BSE are Reliance Com Ltd up by (3.70%) at Rs451.30 along with Cipla Ltd (3.25%) at Rs222.25, Ranbaxy Lab (3.03%) at Rs450.70, HUL (2.62%) at Rs225.45, NTPC Ltd (2.60%) at Rs177.80, SBI (2.54%) at Rs1,332.40, ICICI Bank Ltd (2.49%) at Rs633.00 and HDFC Bank Ltd by (2.47%) at Rs1,059.10.

Lossers from the BSE are Satyam Comp down by (3.11%) at Rs371.05 along with Bharti Airtel (2.12%) at Rs785.00, DLF Ltd (1.93%) at Rs448.25, L&T Ltd (1.82%) at Rs2,498.90, BHEL (1.12%) at Rs1,515.10 and Ambuja Cement by (1.09%) at Rs81.90.

The BSE Bank index is trading up by 151.26 points at Rs6,340.15 as PNB is trading higher by (4.44%) at Rs460.00 along with Bank of Baroda (4.19%) at Rs225.00, Bank of India (3.72%) at Rs266.30, HDFC Bank Ltd by (2.56%) at Rs1,060.00 and ICICI Bank Ltd by (2.53%) at Rs633.20.

The BSE Pharma index is trading higher by 105.14 points at Rs4,095.99 as Sun Pharma is trading up by (5.35%) at Rs1,367.45 along with Dr Reddy’s Lab (3.42%) at Rs687.00, Cipla Ltd (1.68%) at Rs222.25, Glenmark Pharma (3.17%) at Rs656.50 and Ranbaxy Lab by (3.01%) at Rs450.06.

The BSE Capital Goods index is trading lower by 121.33 points at Rs11,025.18 as Kirloskar br is trading down(12.07%) at Rs147.50 along with Alstom Proje (2.52%) at Rs392.00, L&T Ltd (1.68%) at Rs2,502.45, Areva by (1.67%) at Rs1,446.00 and Crompton Greaves by (1.20%) at Rs226.00.

From the telecommunication sector, Reliance Communications is trading higher by (3.64%) at Rs450.95 followed by Idea Cellular up by (0.62%) at Rs81.15 while Bharti Airtel is lower by (1.63%) at Rs790.00 and Tata Communications by (0.77%) at Rs392.00.

In auto sector Hero Honda Motors is trading higher by (1.24%) at Rs688.05 along with M&M Ltd up by (1.03%) at Rs525.95 and Maruti Suzuki by (0.04%) at Rs619.50 while Tata Motors is down by (0.32%) at Rs420.55.

In cement sector Grasim Indus is trading up by (0.06%) at Rs1,726.15 followed by ACC Ltd trading higher by (0.20%) at Rs540.90 while Ambuja Cement is lower by (0.48%) at Rs82.50.
