The markets are trading sharply lower on the back of selling in capital goods, banking, auto, metal, reality and oil & gas stocks led by inflation worries. Inflation rate for the week ended June 14 raced to a 13-year high of 11.42% as compared to 11.05% of previous week. Market opened on extremely negative note on the back of weak global cues and concerns of rising oil prices. From the sectoral front all indices are trading in red. Among the Sensex pack, only one stock is trading in green while 29 stocks are trading in red. The only one stock that is trading in green is Tata Steel.
At 1.30PM, the BSE Sensex is trading down by 537.25 points at 13,884.57 and NSE Nifty is down by 162.10 points at 4,153.75.
The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading lower by 171.11 points and 168.97 points at 5,570.92 and 6,960.10 respectively.
Lossers from the BSE are ICICI Bank down by (7.30%) at Rs643.00 followed by Wipro Ltd by (7.28%) at Rs441.10, M&M Ltd by (6.90%) at 505.00, Reliance Infra by (6.32%) at Rs881.00, Tata Motors by (6.02%) at Rs454.10 and Ambuja Cement by (5.94%) at Rs80.00.
The Capital Goods index is trading down by 423.66 points at Rs10,463.57 as Havells India is trading lower by (6.07%) at Rs349.00 along with Punj lloyd (5.26%) at Rs221.70, Kir Oil Eng (4.90%) at Rs88.40, Jyoti Struct by (4.49%) at Rs115.00 and L&T Ltd by (4.28%) at Rs2,258.00.
The Metal Index is trading down by 359.45 points at 13,563.96. Contributed by NALCO lower by (9.64%) at Rs334.05 along with Sterlite In lower by (6.77%) at Rs676.00, Maharashtra Sea (5.70%) at Rs145.70, Jindal Stain by (5.17%) at Rs123.00 and JSW SL by (4.69%) at Rs983.50.
From the telecommunication sector, Bharti Airtel is trading lower by (4.85%) at Rs732.10 along with Tata Communications down by (4.69%) at Rs375.65, Reliance Communications by (4.40%) at Rs474.00 and Idea Cellular by (3.48%) at Rs97.00.
In auto sector M&M is trading lower by (7.71%) at Rs338.50 along with Tata Motors is down by (5.57%) at Rs460.80, Hero Honda Motors lower by (4.64%) at Rs686.25 and Maruti Suzuki by (4.11%) at Rs648.15.
In cement sector Ambuja Cements is trading down by (3.12%) at Rs82.80 along with Grasim Industries by (3.87%) at Rs1,961.00 and ACC Ltd is trading down by (3.19%) at Rs580.00.
Tata steel is trading higher by (0.78%) at Rs763.00. Company has won a Rs18.4 billion turnkey contract from the Damodar Valley Corporation for setting up a 500MW generating unit at the Bokaro thermal power station in the state of Jharkhand, India.
Tata Motors is trading down by (6.02%) at Rs451.10. Tata Motors share in the compact car segment dropped to 15.78%in 2007-08 from 19.21 per cent recorded a year ago, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam).
