Japan Stocks Up 1% As Tokyo Elec Jumps, Resources Up

Tokyo: Japan's Nikkei stock average rose 1 per cent on Tuesday, rebounding from a two-week closing low hit the previous day as Tokyo Electron Ltd jumped 4.5 per cent after a brokerage upgrade, while resources-related shares such as trading house Mitsui Co Ltd climbed after oil marked a record closing high.

The benchmark Nikkei average added 125.49 points to end the morning at 13,043.00. It fell 3.1 per cent on Monday to book its lowest close since April 1.

The broader TOPIX index gained 1 per cent or 12.39 points to 1,258.63.
