MUMBAI: The market opened on a quiet note Tuesday after scaling fresh highs in the previous session. Negative signals from global markets also dampened sentiment. Capital goods and auto shares led the declines.
At 10 am, the National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was down 21 points or 0.37 per cent at 5649.15. The Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was 86 points or 0.45 per cent lower at 18,973.07.
Biggest Sensex gainers were Tata Consultancy Services (up 2.45%), ONGC (2.44%), Reliance Energy (2%), HDFC Bank (1.31%), Tata Steel (0.94%) and ICICI Bank (0.94%).
Bajaj Auto (down 1.16%), Hindalco Industries (0.48%), Wipro (0.37%), Ranbaxy Laboratories (0.30%) and Infosys Technologies (0.27%) were the losers. The market breadth showed 695 advances and 226 declines on BSE, while on NSE, 451 shares advanced and 428 declined.
