Equities open higher; metals, realty in lead

MUMBAI: Key indices opened higher Wednesday on positive global cues. Metals and realty stocks advanced while technology stocks dragged. Midcaps and smallcaps also witnessed buying interest.

At 10:04 AM, Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was up 69 points or 0.45 per cent at 15612.18. National Stock Exchange’s Nifty rose 22 points or 0.5 per cent to 4519.45.

Biggest Sensex gainers were Ambuja Cements (up 1.05%), Tata Steel (0.99%), HDFC Bank (0.95%), Wipro (0.94%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.9%) and BHEL (0.7%).

Infosys Technologies (down 0.72%) and Hindalco Industries (0.13%) were the only losers on the 30-share index.

The market breadth showed 1121 advances and 202 declines, while on NSE, 740 shares advanced and 139 declined.
