The key benchmark indices traded choppy after swinging between the positive and negative terrain over apprehensions of India''s annual monsoon and possible downgrade of the country''s sovereign rating by rating agencies due to high fiscal deficit. Also weak global cues led by fragile data from US market and dampening crude oil prices resulted slide in domestic market. On the sectoral front, out of 13 Indices, 10 indices advanced whereas 3 indices declined. Oil stocks were mixed on sharp slide in crude oil prices.
Metal stocks advanced despite LMEX, a measure of six metals traded on the London Metal Exchange, fell 3.76% overnight.
FMCG Stocks gained as the government thrust on the agriculture sector in Union Budget 2009-10. Bank stocks weaken as the expectations were not fulfilled from Budget.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE, out of 2,429 stocks traded so far, 1,061 shares advanced while 1,292 shares declined. Nearly 76 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Sensex is trading higher by 54.02 points at 13,823.17 whereas NSE Nifty is up by 21.75 points at 4,100.65.
The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 42.85 points at 4,825.69 and Small cap is trading up by 12.60 points at 5,349.96.
Major gainers from the BSE Sensex pack are Sun Pharmaceutical Limited surged 2.95% to Rs. 1,175.95 along with Reliance Infra Limited 2.64% to Rs. 1,103.10, Sterlite Industries Limited gained 2.55% to Rs. 560.00, Jaiprakash Associates Limited improved 2.37% to Rs. 199.05, State Bank of India Limited advanced 2.21% to Rs. 1,622.00, TCS Limited improved 1.89% to Rs. 387.25 and Reliance Industries Limited gained 1.81% to Rs. 1,862.50 among others.
Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Tata Motors Limited weaken 3.56% to Rs. 271.15 along with Mahindra & Mahindra Limited plunged 3.13% to Rs. 713.85, BHEL Limited 1.70% to Rs. 2,012.00, ICICI Bank Limited by 1.66% to Rs. 643.70, Larsen & Toubro Limited by 0.86% to Rs. 1,401.00, Grasim Industries Limited 0.84% to Rs. 2,425.00 and ONGC Limited slipped 0.43% to Rs. 1,004.80 among others.
The BSE Realty is higher by 62.24 points or 2.14% at 2,912.63. Stocks trading in green are Indiabulls Realty surged 5.46% to Rs. 196.00, Ackruti 3.84% to Rs. 457.05, Unitech Limited 2.72% to Rs. 69.90, Anant Raj by 1.28% to Rs. 99.00 and Housing Development 1.02% to Rs. 202.80 among others.
Indian Overseas Bank Limited gained 2.14% to Rs. 81.00 after a block deal of eight lakh shares was executed on NSE at Rs. 80 per share.
Tata Motors Limited weaken 3.56% to Rs. 271.15 following a 6.94% plunge in its American depository receipt overnight NYSE.
Educomp Solutions Limited surged 10.74% to Rs. 3,812.00 after the company said its board has approved raising funds upto Rs 606.69 crore through qualified institutional placement.
Mahindra Satyam Limited improved 4.12% to Rs. 73.35 on reports the company has received an approval from the Company Law Board to issue shares to Venturbay Consultants, a subsidiary of Tech Mahindra, on preferential basis.
MIC Electronics Limited gained 1.52% to Rs. 33.35 after the company entered into an agreement with Indian Oil Corporation for marketing solar light-emitting diode lantern through the latter’s retail outlets.
DLF Limited gained 0.72% to Rs. 286.50 on buzz the company has sold its stake in an equal joint venture with Ackruti City to a US-based real estate fund for over Rs. 200 crore.
