Market after a subdued start, the key benchmark indices plunged deep down into the red on the back of weakness in global stocks on concerns over economic recovery. The domestic traders are trading cautiously after Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that heavy borrowing by the government would hurt some private companies who wanted to raise funds.
On a stock specific news, Sun Pharmaceutical Limited is trading higher by 0.4% after it received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration to launch generic version of AstraZeneca Plc''s prostate cancer drug Casodex.
During the last hours'' trading session, almost all the sectoral indices are trading with negative sentiments.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, Realty, Bankex and Metal stocks drastically declined by 7.16%, 4.54% and 3.98% respectively.
Out of the total 2,139 stocks traded at BSE, 1,749 declined, 338 advanced while 52 remained unchanged.
The BSE Sensex is down by 333.71 points at 13,836.73 while NSE Nifty declined by 103.55 points at 4,098.6.
Besides, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading lower by 155.37 points and 178.24 points at 4,808.97 and 5,366.02 respectively.
Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Tata Steel declined by (6.68%) to Rs. 371.50, along with Sterlite Industries by (6.46%) to Rs. 557.50, DLF Limited by (6%) at Rs. 289.60, ICICI Bank by (5.90%) at Rs. 654, Reliance infra by (4.77%) at Rs. 1,101.05 and TCS Limited by (4.63%) at Rs. 371.
Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Unitech Limited down by (10.32%) at Rs. 68.65 along with Suzlon Energy by (8.25%) at Rs. 89.5, DLF Limited by (6.05%) at Rs. 289.7, Sterlite Industries by (6.04%) at Rs. 557, Tata Steel by (5.98%) at Rs. 372.8 and ICICI Bank by (5.86%) at Rs. 654.15.
BSE Realty is trading lower by (7.16%) or 227.87 points at 2,954.27. The top losers in the index are Unitech Limited declined by (9.83%) to Rs. 68.80 along with Ansal Infras by (7.40%) to Rs. 48.20, Indiabul Real by (7.09%) to Rs. 191.30, Omaxe Limited by (6.68%) to Rs. 84.50, followed by Parsvnath by (6.42%) at Rs. 77.25.
BSE Bankex is trading lower by (4.54%) or 354.56 points at 7,450.10. The major losers are Canara Bank down by (6.65%) at Rs. 246.90 along with ICICI Bank by (5.90%) at Rs. 654, Kotak Bank by (5.89%) at Rs. 565 followed by IDBI Bank Limited by (5.81%) at Rs. 93.95.
