Markets Are In Front Of The Instability - June 03, 2009

The markets are facing the volatility and are trading lower as profit booking emerged among the frontline indices. Further the negative opening of the European markets also turned down the sentiments. The selling pressure witnessed among the Banking, IT and Oil & Gas stocks. However, Consumer Durables, FMCG, Pharma and Metal stocks are witnessing some buying interest.

The second line indices also shed most of their early gains but are however trading higher. The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 14,950 mark and the NSE Nifty below the 4,550 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1850 stocks are advancing while 913 stocks are declining in BSE.

Tata Motors reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (4.83%) at Rs. 366 while Mahindra & Mahindra reported the top loser trading down by (4.43%) at Rs. 693.25.

The BSE Sensex is trading down by 44.05 points or (0.30%) at 14,830.86 and the NSE Nifty is trading lower by 8.40 points or (0.19%) at 4,516.85.

The BSE Mid Cap increased by 46.13 points or (0.88%) to 5,292.81 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 93.91 points or (1.50%) to 6,346.81.

The Consumer Durables index is trading with decent gains of 89.99 points or 3.10% at 2,996.54. Pushing it are Titan industries trading up by 5.85% at Rs1180 along with Blue Star by 2.95% at Rs307, Gitanjali GE by 2.58% at Rs133 and Videocon Inds by 0.52% at Rs184.

The Bankex index is trading with losses of 149.77 points or 1.83% at 8,013.26. Losers from this pack are Allahabad bank trading lower by 3.01% at Rs85.45 along with Indus Ind bank by 2.68% at Rs72.70, ICICI bank by 2.50% at Rs714.15, Bank of Baroda by 2.48% at Rs424.20, IDBI bank by 2.20% at Rs89.05, State bank of India by 2.05% at Rs1870.30, Indian overseas bank by 1.82% at Rs91.50 and HDFC bank by 1.68% at Rs1375.

The most active shares on NSE are Ispat industries trading at Rs 27.20 with a total traded quantity of 85164455 shares followed by Unitech trading at Rs.94 with a total traded quantity of 82681821 shares.

Jaihind Projects Limited is trading up by 4.95% at Rs85.90. The company has informed that the Company has been awarded order of Rs 14.84 Crores from Gujarat State Petronet Limited for Laying of Olpad-Utran Gas Pipeline Project.

The Great Eastern Shipping Company Limited is trading with strong gains of 7.55% at Rs308.55. The company has delivered its 2000 built Handymax bulk carrier "Jag Reena" (45,659 dwt) to the buyers.

With the delivery of this vessel, the Company''''s current fleet stands at 37 vessels, comprising 31 tankers (12 crude carriers, 18 product carriers, 1 LPG carriers) and 6 dry bulk carriers (1 Capesize, 1 Panamax, 2 Supramax, 1 Handymax, 1 Handysize) with an average age of 10.1 years aggregating 2,83 mn dwt.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading lower as the FTSE 100, DAX and CAC 40 index are trading down by (1.67%), (0.67%) and (1.17%) respectively.
