After a weak opening today, the major Indian bourses are trading with negative sentiments amid fresh concerns over the state of US economy. In addition, lack of specific news in the domestic arena, and mixed economic data of US forced investors to book the profit from the recent rally.
On a stock specific move, GVK power surged over 3.5% after Mumbai International Airport, a joint venture between Hyderabad-based GVK group-led consortium and Airports Authority of India, has decided to sell around 200 acres in the western suburbs of the city.
During the last hours'' trading session, selling pressure has emerged across IT, Metal and Capital Goods (CG) stocks whereas buying interest is seen across Realty, Consumer Durable (CD) and Oil & Gas counters.
Among the BSE sectoral indices, IT, Metal and CG stocks declined by 1.68%, 1.64% and 1.16% respectively, while BSE Realty, CD and Oil & Gas inclined by 1.16%, 0.39% and 0.36% respectively.
Overall the market breadth is positive as 1213 stocks are trading in green while 938 stocks are in red.
The BSE Sensex is down by 107.97 points at 14,849.93 while NSE Nifty declined by 42.25 points at 4,475.55. Besides, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading higher by 18.73 points and 36.25 points at 5,244.9 and 6,047.61 respectively.
Losers from the BSE Pack are Wipro Limited down by (2.95%) at Rs. 385.3 along with Tata Steel by (2.85%) at Rs. 438.05, Mahindra and Mahindra by (2.78%) at Rs. 753, TCS Limited by (2.21%) at Rs. 381.2, ONGC by (2.09%) at Rs. 1,101 and L&T by (1.96%) at Rs. 1,496.7.
Losers from the NSE Sensex Pack are Cipla Limited declined by (3.18%) to Rs. 252.45, along with Tata Steel by (3.17%) to Rs. 436.4, Mahindra and Mahindra by (3.10%) at Rs. 751.05, Wipro Limited by (2.94%) at Rs. 384.85, ONGC by (2.68%) at Rs. 1,096.6 and Cairn India by (2.58%) at Rs. 234.45.
BSE IT is trading lower by (1.68%) or 54.82 points at 3,206.59. The major losers are Wipro Limited down by (2.95%) at Rs. 385.3 along with TCS Limited by (2.21%) at Rs. 381.2, Infosys Technologies by (1.63%) at Rs. 1,696, Rolta India by (1.12%) at Rs.141.85 followed by HCL Technologies by (0.84%) at Rs. 206.4.
BSE Metal is trading down by (1.64%) or 195.77 points at 11,765.61. The top losers in the index are Sesa Goa declined by (2.89%) to Rs. 194.95 along with Tata Steel by (2.58%) to Rs. 439.25, Jindal steel by (2.39%) to Rs. 2,597 followed by JSW SL by (1.98%) at Rs. 669.15.
