Markets Persistent Its Unite On Positive Global Cues - May 15, 2009

The key benchmark indices sustained the momentum led by Banking stocks due to bounce back rally in global banking stocks. The market is adaptive to global cues and there are signs of firmness for further trading session.

On the sectoral front, traders on-loaded positions across the sectors except Oil&Gas Indices. Capital Goods stocks grew after Larsen & Toubro said it expects a strong order flow in the year ending March 2010.

Metal stocks advanced on the back of fall in copper prices. Banking stocks extended early gains on hopes falling interest rates will boost lending growth. Realty stocks grew on recent reports banks have stepped up lending to real estate firms.

The market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of 2,440 stocks traded so far, 1,566 shares advanced while 784 shares declined. Nearly 90 shares are unchanged.

The BSE Sensex is trading higher by 185.26 points at 12,058.17 and NSE Nifty is up by 46.29 points at 3,639.75.

The BSE Mid Cap is trading higher by 59.85 points at 3,816.79 and Small cap is trading up by 61.37 points at 4,305.53.

Major gainers from the BSE Sensex pack are Tata Motors Ltd surged 4.80% to Rs. 272.65 along with Bharti Airtel spurted 4.43% to Rs. 797.90, TCS Ltd by 3.95% to Rs. 644.70, Jaiprakas Associates Ltd by 3.85% to Rs. 141.75, ICICI Bank by 3.61% to Rs. 556.05, Tata Steel by 3.57% to Rs. 274.00, Larsen & Toubro Ltd by 3.40% to Rs. 979.40, Reliance Communication by 3.32% to Rs. 232.10, HDFC Ltd advanced 3.16% to Rs. 1,924.90, Sterlite Industries Ltd by 3.06% to Rs. 462.75, DLF Ltd by 2.89% to Rs. 256.40 and State Bank of India Ltd by 2.85% to Rs. 1,304.00 among others.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are ONGC Ltd slipped 2.73% to Rs. 809.10 along with ITC Ltd fell 0.08% to Rs. 186.30.

The BSE Capital Goods is higher by 225.11 points or 2.69% at 8,602.48. Stocks trading in green are Praj Industries by 6.51% to Rs. 77.70, Usha Martin by 6.04% to Rs. 43.00, Crompton Greaves Ltd by 5.67% to Rs. 177.90, Thermax 5.00% to Rs. 282.45 and ABB Ltd by 4.01% to Rs. 483.00.

The BSE Consumer Durables is higher by 25.41 points or 1.31% at 1,970.68. Stocks trading in green are Titan Industries Ltd by 1.85% to Rs. 884.25, Videocon Industries Ltd by 1.46% to Rs. 114.60, Rajesh Exports by 0.86% to Rs. 29.35, Blue Star 0.56% to Rs. 189.85 and Gitanjali Gems by 0.14% to Rs. 71.20.

Great Offshore Ltd retreated 3.67% to Rs. 267.80 on reports Oil and Natural Gas Corporation has terminated a five-year rig contract worth Rs. 1,000 crore which it had awarded to the company in July 2007 following lapse of a deadline.

Axis Bank Ltd advanced 4.01% to Rs. 662.95 after the bank reduced its benchmark prime lending rate by 50 basis points, bringing it to 14.75% effective today, 15 May 2009.

HDFC Ltd advanced 3.16% to Rs. 1,924.90 on reports the housing finance major will cut deposit rates which will bring down the cost of funds.

ONGC Ltd slipped 2.73% to Rs. 809.10 on reports the company''s net profit may fall in 2008-09 as the government is planning to ask the company to pay more compensation to PSU OMCs.

BHEL gained 2.22% to Rs. 1,700.00 on reports the company has bagged an order worth Rs. 1475 crore for a 600 megawatt thermal power plant in Chattisgarh.

Bank of Maharashtra Ltd spurted 4.45% to Rs. 25.80 after net profit jumped 145.3% to Rs 137.33 crore in Q4 March 2009 over Q4 March 2008.
