Markets Off The Day’s Low - May 05, 2009

The markets gained some momentum and recovered from the day’s low as buying interest erupted among the Realty, Metal, Banking, Capital Goods and Power stocks. However, the IT and FMCG stocks are still under pressure. The broader market indices today outperformed the benchmark index today as both the BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap are now trading higher with a gain of more than 1.5% each.

The BSE Sensex is now trading near the 12,100 mark and the NSE Nifty above the 3,650 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1484 stocks are advancing while 967 stocks are declining in BSE.

DLF reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (10.16%) at Rs. 257.50 while HDFC reported the top loser trading down by (4.73%) at Rs. 1,865.

BSE Sensex is at 12,180.10 up by 45.35 points and Nifty is at 3,674.05 up by 20.05 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is higher by 69.14 points at 3,720.43 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 80.21 points to 4,161.91.

The Realty index is trading with handsome gains of 178.35 points or 7.98% at 2,414.44. Leading the rally from this pack are DLF trading up by 10.20% at Rs257.60 along with Unitech by 9.95% at Rs54.15, HDIL by 9.74% at Rs172.90, Penland by 6.81% at Rs38.45, Phoenix Mill by 6.44% at Rs116.50, Sobha Dev by 6.16% at Rs109.40, Indiabull Real by 5.53% at Rs140.20, Omaxe by 5% at Rs58.80 and Parsvnath by 3.50% at Rs51.75.

The Metal index is trading higher by 240.21 points or 3.21% at 7,729.68. Pushing it are JSW Steel by 10.05% at Rs398.10 along with Tata Steel by 7.91% at Rs283.80, Jindal Saw by 7% at Rs243.85, Gujarat NRE Coke by 3.85% at Rs26.95, Hind Zinc by 3.74% at Rs548.50, Ispat Inds by 3.71% at Rs14.27, Nalco by 2.99% at Rs233.90, Sesa Goa by 2.25% at Rs122.70 and SAIL by 1.31% at Rs119.55.

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs.53.75 with a total traded quantity of 109831817 shares followed by Suzlon Energy trading at Rs.72.15 with a total traded quantity of 54758948 shares.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading mixed as the FTSE 100 is trading up by (2.40%) and the DAX index is trading down by (0.56%).
