Market Nosedives: Banking, Realty Leading The Laggards List - April 08, 2009

After a gap down opening, the benchmark indices are continuously trading with in the southward due to selling pressure around the Asian Markets. Uncertainty over the parliamentary elections along with the corporate earning season which will be kicking off from mid-April gave investors an excuse to book profits on recent gains.

On stock specific news Essar Oil is trading up by nearly 9% after an announcement that, company is all set to acquire 50% stake in Kenya Petroleum Refineries after the Kenyan government agreed to bury the differences that delayed the deal for so long.

During the last hours'' trading session, heavy selling pressure has emerged across Banking, Metal and Realty stocks. Among the BSE sectoral indices, the Banking, Metal and Realty indices are trading down by 4.68%, 4% and 3.56% respectively, while BSE CD index is marginal up by 0.93%.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex dipped by 274.85 points at 10,260.01 while NSE Nifty declined by 76.84 points at 3,179.75. Opposite to this, the BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading higher by 12 points and 36.44 points at 3,215.08 and 3,583.68 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are Hindalco Industries down by (7.42%) to Rs. 55.5, along with HDFC Bank Ltd by (5.03%) to Rs. 1009.5, ONGC by (4.94%) at Rs.842, R-Com by (4.81%) at Rs. 207.6, ICICI Bank Ltd by (4.70%) at Rs. 357.05 and DLF Ltd by (4.68%) at Rs.199.8.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are Hindalco Industries down by (7.40%) at Rs. 55.7 along with ONGC by (4.88%) at Rs. 843.55, HDFC Bank by (4.85%) at Rs. 1,012.5, PNB by (4.73%) at Rs. 428.95, Sterlite Industries by (4.30%) at Rs. 369.8 and R-Com by (4.17%) at Rs. 209.15.

BSE Bankex is trading lower by (4.68%) or 230.39 points at 4,695.88. The major losers are Kotak Bank down by (7.37%) at Rs. 344 along with PNB by (5.22%) at Rs. 425.45, HDFC Bank Ltd by (5.03%) to Rs. 1009.5followed by Canara Bank by (5.10%) at Rs. 159.25.

BSE Metal is trading down by (4%) or 257.82 points at 6,193.30. The top losers in the index are Hindalco Industries declined by (7.42%) to Rs. 55.5 along with JSW SL by (7.27%) to Rs. 288.90, Sterlite Industries by (4.73 %) to Rs. 367.50, Sesa Goa by (4.63%) to Rs. 100.85, Tata Steel by (3.37%) to Rs. 227.90, followed by SAIL by (3.11%) at Rs. 104.20.
