Back Of Positive Global Markets Have A Opening Gap - April 17, 2009

The markets bounced back from the previous session sell off and opened with a positive gap on the back of positive global markets. The BSE Sensex rising above the 11,100 mark and the NSE Nifty surpassing the 3,400 mark in the early trade. The Mid Cap and the Small Cap indices continued its upward journey and have outperformed the benchmark indices in the early trade. The Realty, Metal, Banking and Consumer Durables stocks are fronting the rally today. Both the BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap are trading with a gain of more than 2% each.

At 10.34AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 224.56 points at 11,171.96 and the Nifty was up by 67.85 points to 3,437.35.

The BSE Mid Cap increased by 102.46 points to 3,541.19 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 90.06 points to 4,019.05.

Unitech is trading higher by around (11%) after the real estate maker raised $325 million (Rs 1,575 crore) at Rs.38.50 per share through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) issue route, enabling it to service debt and develop affordable housing.

The Asian markets are trading higher today barring the Seoul Composite Index, which is trading lower by (0.33%). However, Hang Seng, Nikkei 255 and Straits Times index are trading up by (1.42%), (1.26%) and (0.41%) respectively.

The US stock markets on Thursday ended higher after a sharp choppy session backed by better-than-expected results from JPMorgan Chase and Google. JPMorgan Chase reported first quarter earnings of $0.40 per share, beating the $0.32 per share that was widely expected. The company reported higher loss provisions as it set aside $10 billion to cover losses on credit cards and consumer loans. Google''s quarterly profit also came in better than expectations. It reported first-quarter revenue of $5.51 billion and profit of $1.42 billion. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) advanced by 95.81 points to close at 8,125.43. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index increased by 43.64 points to close at 1,670.44 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew by 13.24 points to close at 865.30.

DLF reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading higher by (4.28%) at Rs. 244.70 while ITC reported the top loser down by (1.85%) at Rs. 188.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1026 stocks are advancing while 343 stocks are declining on BSE.

BSE Realty index is trading higher by 93.29 points or (4.44%) to trade at 2,194.03. The top gainers are Unitech increased by (10.15%) to Rs.47.75, Sobha Developers up by (8.55%) to Rs.106.05, HDIL inclined by (7.56%) to Rs.133.80 followed by Anant Raj Industries up by (7.52%) to Rs. 71.50.

BSE Metal index is trading higher by 228.86 points or (3.31%) at 7,133.98. The major gainers are Jai Corp up by (10%) to Rs. 187, Gujarat NRE grew by (4.16%) at Rs. 26.30, JSW Steel up by (4.11%) to Rs. 344.45 and Tata Steel inclined by (3.62%) to Rs. 278.90.
