Markets Surged In The Opening Trade- March 13, 2009

The markets today surged in the opening trade on the back of positive global cues. All the sectorial indices are trading in green in the opening trade. The rally was witnessed among the Realty, Banking, IT, Metal and Oil & Gas stocks. The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap index also joined the rally today in the early trade as they are trading with a gain of more than 1% each.

The Asian markets are trading higher today as Hang Seng, Nikkei 255, Straits Times and Seoul Composite index are trading up by (3.59%), (4.90%), (3.47%) and (0.06%) respectively.

The US stock markets on Thursday ended higher on the back of better-than-expected retail sales data, renewed buying interest in bellwether General Electric and positive comments from Bank of America''s CEO about the bank''s profitability. Bank of America CEO said that it was profitable in the first two months in 2009 and the company doesn''t need more government capital. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) surged by 239.66 points to close at 7,170.06. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index increased by 54.46 points to close at 1,426.10 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew by 29.38 points to close at 750.74.

The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 8,550 mark and the NSE Nifty trading above the 2,670 mark.

DLF reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading higher by (10.05%) at Rs. 150.60 while Bharti Airtel reported the top loser down by (0.40%) at Rs. 548.10.

The overall market breadth is positive as 964 stocks are advancing while 352 stocks are declining on BSE.

At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 235.54 points at 8,579.29 and the Nifty was up by 59 points to 2,676.45.

The BSE Mid Cap increased by 51.97 points to 2,616.37 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 42.41 points to 2,919.68.

BSE Bank index is trading higher by 150.04 points or (4%) to trade at 3,904.26. The top gainers are Kotak Bank increased by (5.14%) to Rs.243.20, ICICI Bank up by (6.72%) to Rs.303.35, PNB inclined by (4.36%) to Rs.330.15 followed by AXIS Bank grew by (4.98%) to Rs. 319.50.

BSE Realty index is trading higher by 90.05 points or (6.88%) to trade at 1,399.46. The major gainers are DLF inclined by (10.05%) to Rs. 150.60, Mahindra Life up by (8.40%) to Rs.91, Unitech increased by (6.19%) to Rs.26.60 followed by Orbit Co up by (6.15%) to Rs.44.

Tata Communication is trading higher by (7.94%) at Rs. 447. The company said on Thursday that it has raised $350 million in the form of debt and there is no liquidity problem in the company.
