The markets today opened flat and turned choppy in the early trade. The traders booked some profits after a sharp rally in the previous session. The Pharma, Metal, Banking and Capital Goods stocks are supporting the markets. The broader market stocks also managed to rally in the opening trade as the BSE Mid Cap and the BSE Small Cap index are trading with a gain of more than 1% each.
The BSE Sensex is now trading above the 10,050 mark and the NSE Nifty trading above the 3,100 mark.
At 10.32AM, the BSE Sensex was up by 57.46 points at 10,060.56 and the Nifty was up by 23.30 points to 3,105.55.
The BSE Mid Cap increased by 47.45 points to 2,921.67 and the BSE Small Cap grew by 33.47 points to 3,220.81.
The Asian markets are trading mixed today as Nikkei and Shanghai Composite index are trading up by (0.81%) and (0.54%) respectively. However, Hang Seng, Straits Times and Seoul Composite index are trading down by (0.45%), (0.93%) and (0.55%) respectively.
The US stock markets continued its upward rally on Thursday and ended near session highs on the back of better-than-expected corporate earnings and a satisfactory Treasury auction of a USD 24 billion auction of seven-year treasury notes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) advanced by 174.75 points to close at 7,924.56. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index increased by 58.05 points to close at 1,587 and the S&P 500 (SPX) grew by 18.98 points to close at 832.86.
Ranbaxy Laboratories reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading higher by (4.05%) at Rs. 164.35 while Infosys Technologies reported the top loser down by (0.91%) at Rs. 1,368.15.
The overall market breadth is positive as 1009 stocks are advancing while 419 stocks are declining on BSE.
BSE Capital Goods index is trading higher by 120.39 points or (1.87%) to trade at 6,545.77. The top gainers are Elecon Engineering increased by (5.95%) to Rs.32.05, BEML up by (3.80%) to Rs.370, Siemens inclined by (4.10%) to Rs.259 followed by Reliance Industrial Infra grew by (3.22%) to Rs. 291.90.
BSE Metal index is trading higher by 123.31 points or (2.12%) at 5,950.63. The major gainers are
DLF is advancing by (1.28%) to Rs. 178.60. The company has slashed rates for one of its upcoming housing projects in Gurgaon by 20%.
SAIL is increasing by (1.40%). The company expects up to 10% more sales in the present month compared to the year-ago period on improved demand from sectors like construction and automobile.
