Markets Bounced Back In The Early Trade- March 4, 2009

The markets today made a sharp pullback from the yesterday’s low and opened marginally higher on the back of mixed cues from the global markets. But suddenly the markets turned volatile amid fresh selling pressure. The significant buying is seen among the Metal, Realty, Banking and Capital Goods stocks. However, the Oil & Gas, IT and Consumer Durables stocks are bucking the trend. The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap index are however trading flat in the opening trade.

Suzlon Energy is trading lower by (2.09%) at Rs. 39.10. The company’s wholly owned subsidiary Suzlon Energy (Tianjin) Limited has entered into an agreement with inner Mongolia North Longyuan Wind Power Corporation for a 100 MW of wind turbine capacity. The company has bagged an order for supplying 80 wind power turbines from Inner Mongolia North Longyuan Wind Power Corporation, for an undisclosed amount.

The Asian markets are trading mostly higher today barring the Straits Times index, which is trading marginally down by (0.07%). However, the Nikkei 225, Hang Seng, Shanghai Composite and Seoul Composite index are trading up by (0.51%), (0.67%), (2.66%) and (1.82%) respectively.

The US markets slipped on Tuesday, with the with the S&P ending below 700 for the first time since October 1996, as market participants remained worried about the ongoing financial crunch. The Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke said that the near term outlook for the economy remains weak and said more action will be necessary to help financial conditions. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) dropped by 37.27 points to close at 6,726.02. The NASDAQ Composite (RIXF) index decreased by 1.84 points to close at 1,321.01 and the S&P 500 (SPX) fell by 4.49 points to close at 696.33.

The BSE Sensex is now trading around the 8,400 mark and the NSE Nifty trading around the 2,620 mark.

ACC reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading higher by (2.94%) at Rs. 545.70 while Tata Power reported the top loser down by (3.57%) at Rs. 642.25.

The overall market breadth is negative as 647 stocks are advancing while 712 stocks are declining on BSE.

At 10.33AM, the BSE Sensex was down by 26.22 points at 8,401.07 and the Nifty was down by 1.50 points to 2,620.90.

The BSE Mid Cap increased by 2.34 points to 2,659.47 while the BSE Small Cap fell by 2.91 points to 3,006.65.

BSE Metal index is trading higher by 83.03 points or (1.88%) to trade at 4,506.17. The top gainers are Sterlite Industries increased by (2.94%) to Rs.245, Sesa Goa up by (2.93%) to Rs.75.50, SAIL inclined by (2.62%) to Rs.72.50 followed by JSW Steel grew by (2.17%) to Rs. 174.25.

BSE Realty index is trading higher by 21.10 points or (1.55%) to trade at 1,386.70. The major gainers are India Bull Real inclined by (1.83%) to Rs. 89, Ansal Infra up by (1.07%) to Rs.23.70, Orbit Co. increased by (1.03%) to Rs.44.35 followed by Unitech up by (0.94%) to Rs.26.80.
