Markets Are trading With Some Volatility- March 19, 2009

The markets are trading lower and are witnessing some volatility. The Capital Goods, Banking, Pharma and FMCG stocks are under pressure. The Realty and IT stocks though paired some of their gains but are still trading higher. The broader markets however trading higher but were off highs.

The BSE Sensex is now trading below the 9,000 mark and the NSE Nifty is trading below the 2,800 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1200 stocks are advancing while 1147 stocks are declining in BSE.

Sterlite Industries reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (2.42%) at Rs. 309.

However, L&T reported the top loser down by (3.15%) at Rs. 615.80.

At 2.35PM BSE Sensex is at 8,964.69 down by 11.99 points and Nifty is at 2,789.10 down by 5.60 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is higher by 8.64 points at 2,768.54 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 24.03 points to 3,088.51.

The Realty index is trading with gains of 29.12 points at 1,613.17. Gainers from this pack are Akruti City trading up by 11.82% at Rs2250 along with India bull Real by 4.41% at Rs95.95, Penland by 1.25% at Rs20.20, Unitech by 1.13% at Rs26.95, Mahindralife by 0.61% at Rs114.60 and Parsvnath by 0.28% at Rs35.80.

The IT index is trading higher by 32.51 points at 2,217.27. Leading from the front NIIT trading up by 15.58% at Rs20.40 followed by Oracle Finance by 5.77% at Rs688.90, Aptech by 5.51% at Rs75.70, Rolta India by 4.14% at Rs54.10, Tech Mahindra by 2.91% at Rs274.20, Patni Computers by 2.52% at Rs119.85, Mphasis by 2.47% at Rs193.10, TCS by 1.39% at Rs513.65, Infosys by 1.37% at Rs1295 and HCL Technologies by 0.98% at Rs103.45

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs.26.90 with a total traded quantity of 24700860 shares followed by Suzlon Energy trading at Rs.37.85 with a total traded quantity of 21314594 shares.

Ramsarup Industries is trading up by 9.84% at Rs23.45. The Company has bagged orders aggregating Rs 164 crores under RGGVY Electrification Work from West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. It will facilitate Electrification of 2527 villages in the District of 24, South Parganas, Howrah & Birbhum and 2.25 Lacs Household Electricity connections. Rarnsarup has carried out successfully several similar orders in Rajasthan.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading higher as FTSE 100 and DAX index are trading up by (0.06%) and (0.86%) respectively.
