Market On Deep Red – March 30 , 2009

After a negative opening, the benchmark indices are continuously trading in deep red tracking cues form its Asian counterparts. Lack of specific news in the domestic arena, and weak outlook of financial sectors globally forced investors to book the profit from the recent rally. However, shares of fertilizer companies are trading with smart gain after Reliance Industries announcement of selling 15 million standard cubic metres a day of gas to fertilizer companies. During the last hour, selling pressure has emerged across overbought sectors such as Banking, Realty and Metal stocks, whereas buying interest has emerged across Consumer Durable (CD) and Health Care (HC) counters. Among the sectoral indices, the BSE Bankex and Realty indices are down by 3.79% and 3.31% respectively, while BSE CD and HC indices surged by 2.93% and 0.20% respectively. Overall the market breadth is negative as 796 stocks are trading in red while 704 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 315.78 points at 9,732.7 and NSE Nifty declined by 84.5 points at 3,024.15. Besides, the BSE Mid Cap dipped by 17.52 points at 2, 916.63, whereas Small Cap is trading higher by 1.44 points at 3,239.55 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are ICICI Bank down by (7.14%) to Rs. 357.7, along with Tata Steel Ltd by (5.75%) to Rs. 210.65, Jai Prakash Associate by (5.64%) at Rs. 84.5, TCS Ltd by (5.46%) at Rs. 543.8, Reliance Communication Ltd by (5.41%) at Rs. 173.9 and HDFC Ltd by (5.36%) at Rs.1504.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are ICICI Bank by (7.32%) at Rs. 357 along with Tata Steel Ltd by (5.82%) at Rs. 210.2, TCS Ltd by (5.59%) at Rs. 542.7, Reliance Infrastructure Ltd by (5.49%) at Rs. 536.6 and SAIL Ltd by (5.45%) at Rs. 97.2.

BSE Bankex is trading lower by (3.79%) or 183.24 points at 4,645.79. The major losers are ICICI Bank Ltd down by (7.14%) at Rs. 357.7 along with Yes Bank Ltd by (6.43%) at Rs. 51.70, Kotak Bank Ltd by (5.57%) at Rs. 284.90, PNB by (5.10%) at Rs. 418.65 followed by Indian overseas bank by (4.28%) at Rs. 45.85.

BSE Realty is trading down by (3.31%) or 54.14 points at 1,580.60. The top losers in the index are Phoenix Mill down by (8.49%) to Rs.62.50 along with Unitech Ltd by (5.43%) to Rs. 33.95, Akruti City by (5%) to Rs. 739.55, DLF Ltd by (4.79%) to Rs. 173.85, followed by Indian Real by (3.88%) at Rs. 95.40.
