Markets Are Still Trading Higher- Feb 25, 2009

The markets have maintained their opening gains and are still trading higher as strong buying continued across the board. Further the positive Asian markets and positive opening of the European markets also boosted the sentiments. The Auto, IT, Metal, Banking and Oil & Gas stocks are on the buyer’s ride today. However the FMCG index is bucking the trend today.

The BSE Mid Cap and the Small Cap indices are also trading higher with a gain of more than 1% each.

The BSE Sensex is now trading around the 8,950 mark and the NSE Nifty is trading above the 2,750 mark.

The overall market breadth is positive as 1311 stocks are advancing while 986 stocks are declining in BSE.

Mahindra & Mahindra reported the top gainer from the BSE Sensex pack, as it is trading up by (8.18%) at Rs. 319.25. However, HDFC reported the top loser down by (1.38%) at Rs. 1,271.25.

At 2.30PM BSE Sensex is at 8,951.83 up by 129.77 points and Nifty is at 2,778.40 up by 44.50 points.

The BSE Mid Cap is higher by 30.42 points at 2,772.87 and the BSE Small Cap increased by 32.94 points to 3,149.05.

The IT index is trading with gains of 53.40 points or 2.62% at 2,089.06. Pushing it are Mphasis trading up by 7.24% at Rs160.70 along with Tech Mahindra by 3.48% at Rs281.05, Infosys by 2.95% at Rs1219, Wipro by 2.73% at Rs218, Oracle Fin by 2.31% at Rs703.60, TCS by 2.06% at Rs476.10, Rolta India by 1.48% at Rs89.15, Finance Technology by 1.29% at Rs443.20 and Patni Computers by 0.85% at Rs100.90.

The Metal index is trading higher by 111.17 point or 2.43% at 4,695.25. Leading from gainers pack are Welspun Guj trading up by 5.23% at Rs65.40 along with Nalco by 4.26% at Rs206.60, Jindal Steel by 4.09% at Rs1022.35, Hindalco Industries by 3.45% at Rs40.45, Tata Steel by 3.02% at Rs165.40, SAIL by 2.37% at Rs77.85, JSW Steel by 2.20% at Rs188.30, Sterlite Inds by 1.66% at Rs247.85, Hind Zinc by 1.58% at Rs323.95, Ispat Inds by 1.18% at Rs10.30.

The most active shares on NSE are Unitech trading at Rs.28.45 with a total traded quantity of 18955983 shares followed by DLF trading at Rs.156.70 with a total traded quantity of 15475186 shares.

Suzlon Energy is trading higher by 3.09% at Rs41.70. The company informed that Suzlon Energy Australia Pty Ltd., a step-down wholly owned subsidiary of Suzlon Energy Ltd has entered into an agreement with AGL Energy Ltd for supply of 54 units of Suzlon''s S88-2.1 MW wind turbine generators translating to 113.4 MW capacity in Australia in 2009.

Hindustan Dorr Oliver is trading up 19.96% at Rs31.85. The Company has bagged a prestigious order for Uranium Ore Processing Plant from Uranium Corporation of India Ltd (UCIL) worth Rs 441 crores for their Greenfiled Ore Mining and Processing facility of capacity 3000 MTPD coming up at Tumalapalle in Andhra Pradesh on LSTK basis. The process plant shall adopt innovative Alkali Pressure Leaching process technology which will be used in India for the first time and M/s. Bateman of South Africa are Company''s Technology partners for this project. Execution of the above project shall be completed within a period of twenty two months.

On the global markets front, the European markets are trading higher as FTSE and DAX index are trading up by (0.89%) and (1.19%) respectively.
