Market Is Facing The Volatility - Feb 18, 2009

The key benchmark indices are trading flat with a bit of volatility as the markets bounced back after severe losses suffered yesterday. Amidst lack of news in the domestic arena the domestic markets are following cues of other Asian markets. As a result of this, most of the sectoral indices are trading in negative terrain with Banking stocks topping the laggards list as there is disappointment of US bank rescue plan. The selling pressure has emerged across the BSE Bankex, Consumer Durables and Realty counters as these indices are down by 2.07%, 1.66% and 0.90% respectively. Overall the market breadth is negative as 967 stocks are trading in red while 746 stocks are in green.

At 11.30 AM, the BSE Sensex down by 58.63 points at 8,976.37 and NSE Nifty declined by 4.84 points at 2,765.65. The BSE Mid Cap and Small Cap are trading lower by 15.55 points and 19.15 points at 2,841.56 and 3,226.84 respectively.

Losers from the BSE Sensex Pack are ICICI Bank Ltd down by (4.99%) to Rs. 366.65, along with Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd by (4.39%) to Rs. 1369.5, State Bank of India by (2.30%) at Rs. 1075, Mahindra & Mahindra by (2.11%) at Rs. 292.4, Hindalco Industries by (1.78%) at Rs.41.45 and HUL by (1.73%) at Rs.247.4.

Losers from the NSE Nifty Pack are ICICI Bank Ltd by (4.74%) at Rs.367.4 along with Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd by (4.37%) at Rs. 1371, Tata Communication by (2.43%) at Rs. 407.5, State Bank of India by (2.31%) at Rs. 1073.45 and Hindalco Industries by (2.24%) at Rs.41.45.

BSE Bankex is trading lower by (2.07%) or 94.76 points at 4,488.61. The major losers are ICICI Bank trading down by (4.99%) at Rs. 366.65, along with Allahabad Bank by (3.32%) at Rs. 48.10, Union Bank by (3.18%) at Rs.131, Indian Overseas by (2.69%) at Rs. 54.30, followed by Axis Bank by (2.11%) to Rs.391.25.

BSE Consumer Durables is trading down by (1.66%) or 26.45 points at 1,564.50. The top losers in the index are Gitanjali GE declined by (3.50%) to Rs.45.50 along with Titan Industries by (3.40%) to Rs. 765.55, Rajesh Exports by (1.45%) to Rs. 23.75, whereas Blue Star and Videocon Industries are trading with marginal gain of 0.04% and 0.33% respectively.
